I study animal science pre-vet studies at Cal Poly Pomona. I love what I study and the knowledge that it provides me. I’ve learned about anatomy, behavior, nutrition, and various other topics about the domestic dog! When caring for a pet it’s super important to understand the critical cues from a distressed, nervous, or sick animal. My courses have taught me about these cues. Currently, im heading into my 4th year and have completed all the upper division animal veterinary science courses. In the future, I plan to attend a veterinary university for my DVM (fingers crossed). In addition to caring for my dog for the past 10-ish years, I also volunteer at an animal shelter in Pomona where I have the opportunity to walk, interact, and play with the dogs there. I love volunteering at a variety of animal centers to broaden my hands-on experience with different animals. I have a volunteer position at an urban wildlife center in San Francisco and on campus at the biology’s departments vivarium. I interned in Costa Rica with exotic species and it was the best experience thus far. Additionally, my course work covered many animals including dogs, cats, exotics, equine, and livestock. I had the amazing opportunity to shadow a veterinarian for a day and learned about vital behaviors and symptoms that sick dogs and cats exhibit. I am actively looking for employment in San Francisco as a veterinary assistant!
