Your Dog's Other Best Friend

Pet care experience

I'VE WORKED WITH ANIMALS FOR A LITTLE OVER TWENTY YEARS NOW -- volunteering with rescues and shelters, fostering rescue dogs, working for a dog-boarding / daycare facility, and providing private care for furbabies when their foster or forever families are away. As you might imagine from my profile picture, I'm not your typical dog lover. I've got a soft spot for all animals and ample experience caring for them too! (Along with cats and dogs, I have experience with a myriad of other creatures - birds, chinchillas, chickens, snakes, etc). I'd love to hear more about you and your pet's needs and will gladly answer any questions about myself so we can see if we might be a good fit. MY EXPERIENCE INCLUDES WORKING WITH ELDER DOGS AND ONES WITH OTHER SPECIAL MEDICAL / PHYSICAL / BEHAVIORAL NEEDS. I occasionally foster rescue dogs and also enjoy volunteering with them - taking rescues out for walks, grooming them, and introducing them to people at adoption events so they might have a chance to find a forever home where they can give and receive boundless love. No matter the context, I am passionate about treating them with the love, care, and respect they each deserve. Given my experience, I am comfortable working with dogs of all ages and a variety of needs, including: puppies, rescue dogs, seniors, dogs recovering from injuries or illness, dogs with mild to moderate behavioral issues, dog breeds that need a handler with confidence, pups with separation anxiety ONE-ON-ONE CARE IS PROMISED: When I'm their caregiver, your dog gets a ton of one-on-one attention from someone who understands they are a beloved family member. MORE ABOUT MY AVAILABILITY: I am a student at UH (studying Uchinaguchi at the Center for Okinawan Studies) but aside from classes, my schedule is rather flexible. I have some weekday spots available for regular mid-day walks/drop-ins and am also able to house-sit if you are looking for overnight care, ongoing companionship, and stability for your pet(s) while you're away. DON'T HESITATE TO DROP ME A LINE SO WE CAN DISCUSS YOUR NEEDS AND SEE IF WE'RE A GOOD FIT FOR EACH OTHER! I am especially interested in establishing long-term relationships which provide greater stability and richer connection with your dog but occasional drop-ins or overnights are fine too.

It is so good to go on a trip and know that Naomi is at my house, taking loving care of my dog. We came home to a house that was cleaner than we left it, a happy dog, and Naomi’s sweet face smiling at us. She made sure that we didn’t stress out when we left, and she texted just the right amount of photos and other communication while we were gone. Naomi listens to you and asks all the right questions concerning care of your home and pet. Will I use her again? You better believe it.

Very thankful to have Naomi walk our Bibim. Her appreciation of dogs is readily apparent as well as her calm direction and disposition. My dog took to her right away.

My cat Napua and I just love Naomi! She took such good care of Napua. Napua is quite shy and does not warm up to everyone but she really became friendly with Naomi. I am so grateful for the loving care. ?

Information Naomi R. would like to know about your pet

I always want to know what your dog's typical day is like so I can do my best to mirror your care and offer comfort and stability in your absence. Below are some questions that give me further insight into your dog's needs: • Allergies, injuries, or other medical conditions? • Any medications or supplements need to be administered? • Any ongoing training you are working on? (I believe in positive-reinforcement and can help mirror your training to support house-breaking, leash-training, basic obedience commands, etc.) • Are there things (sounds, sites, etc) that get your dog particularly excited or anxious? If so, how do you typically redirect their attention, calm or comfort them? • Has your dog been boarded before or had other pet-sitters / walkers? How do they typically adapt?

A typical day

In general, I try to keep your dog's regular routine. Whatever you typically do, I try to mirror while you're away. That said, you and your dog determine what activities we do! I am happy to take your pup on various adventures, depending on their health and interest. Would they enjoy to run? Do they prefer to take an easy stroll around the neighborhood or sprawl out in a patch of sun or shade and lounge lazily at the park? Are they happiest when hiking a trail and getting to sniff all sorts of things? FOR ACTIVE DOGS: I own a car and can provide transportation for your pup for fun getaways and nearby dog-friendly destinations. If your dog is a high-energy canine who loves intense games of fetch or hikes, we can make that happen! Of course, if your dog is a homebody who generally plays it low-key due to their temperament, age, or health conditions, that's fine too. A lot of my regular doggy friends are chill pups who prefer to be foot warmers or lapdogs and look forward to our extended snuggle-sessions together. If preference is to have them stick to their neighborhood for daily walks, we'll go over the route with you and ensure they benefit from that consistency while you're away.
