Hello! My name is Nancy. I housesit pets in both Humboldt and Trinity County, including remote areas where it may be difficult to obtain pet care. I have a lifetime of taking care of cats, dogs, reptiles amphibians, and small livestock, including animals with disabilities.

My poodles love Nancy! My wife and I felt a little bit jealous when we realized our dogs don't miss us at all when we leave them with Nancy. To put it in context, our dog, Shadow, is a rescue pup and has separation anxiety -- normally when we go somewhere (or, even worse, leave him with a pet-sitter) he sits tragically by the door for days on end waiting for us to return. Not so when Nancy comes to stay! On the last trip we returned from which Nancy pet-sat for, the dogs could barley be bothered to get up from their stations by the woodstove to greet us. Our other dog, Red, is so high strung and neurotic she's been a little too obnoxious for other pet-sitters to take on. Nancy took her in stride and actually helped calm her down a little bit.
Nancy is an exceptionally compassionate, caring, and present person. Nancy has housesat for us and cared for our myriad of animals -- which include cattle, chickens and turkeys, and four large dogs-- on multiple occasions while we traveled and for weeks on end. We live in a rugged and remote corner of Northern CA... most house/pet-sitters would find it very challenging to adapt to. When Nancy has watched our place for us, we have always come back to a more serene home and pack of critters than the place and animals we left. Everyone, animals and humans alike, can sense Nancy's great depth of empathy, responsibility, and sweetness as soon as they are around her.

Ideally, I would like to meet a pet and their parent before a homestay, so we can have a relaxed introduction, and I can obtain as much information as possible about both the pet's and parent's wants and needs, especially before a prolonged care stay. I am willing to do this on my own time, in person, or at least by utilizing a zoom or video call, as I can cover large and remote areas throughout Humboldt and Trinity Counties. I need to be thoroughly versed in pets' medical needs, veterinarian contacts, and other emergency contacts. I would need to know the pet or pets' comfort items, toys, and special spots, both inside and outside, and a pet's personality, habits, and the individual traits that make every pet unique. Since my focus is on home care, I need to know the house rules and any special tasks a house owner may need to be performed in order to keep the household running happily. If there are outdoor small animal livestock that need tending, such as chickens, or rabbits, I am happy to incorporate that care into my stay. I want to know every detail that will ensure the pet or pets' owners will return home to see a happy, content, organized household, and safe, healthy, and happy pet or pets. I take pride in my ability to accomplish this, having raised 4 children, and many lovely pets, including cats, dogs, geckos, turtles, snakes, rabbits, chickens, and other small livestock, all of whom I have loved and cherished. The safety of your entire household is my ultimate concern.
A typical day
Every pet requires special attention, and has their individual comforts, and routines. My goal as a pet caregiver is to structure the pet's day as to their regular schedule as closely as possible, in order to minimize separation anxiety from their parent or parents. If a pet requires frequent walks along woodland paths, with a vigorous search for the perfect stick, I will help them find their joy in doing so. If a pet prefers a more cozy, home-focused environment, with indoor play, or gentle walks in their garden, it's my pleasure to cater to those needs. In short, I take my direction from the pet's parent, and the pet themselves, to structure the pet's ideal day, every day. Their happiness is mine.

I am available to do pet care on any day, at any hour, with advance notice. My time is entirely my own. I love Eureka and have transitioned here because I love nature and animals so much, and to be with my family, who have a small animal farm in Trinity County. I specialize in medium to long-term home care of animals in Humboldt and Trinity counties so I am aware of the unique challenges the terrain, roads, and homesteads this territory presents. That translates to the best care possible for both your pets and your home, especially if an extended stay is required. My goal is to have pet parents return to a happy, organized home. I'd like to meet you and your pet or pets before the homestay, in order to minimize any separation anxiety that may arise when I arrive to care for your pet. I am happy to do this on my own time, or during a zoom or video call, as I cover extensive, and sometimes very remote areas.
