I am a retired physician and lifelong dog lover, having had a dog for my entire adult life, until euthanizing our last dog two years ago. One of our dogs had a number of ailments, and our last dog had severe separation anxiety, so I am somewhat familiar with "special needs" animals. We had always had to use a kennel for our dogs when we went out of town, which wasn't optimal for our dogs, nor for us. I started off with Rover.com a couple of years ago, just boarding one small dog in our home at a time, hoping to care for him/her as I would have my own dog. I have also volunteered with the Wisconsin Humane Society since retiring in 2012, working with adopters and their adoptees. Unfortunately, once the pandemic hit, both my dog boarding, and my volunteer opportunities became essentially non-existent. To get my "animal fix," I started doing a bit of fostering, which resulted in my adopting one of the kittens I'd fostered, last fall. Sophie has made it very apparent that she is not dog-friendly, so I really can no longer welcome any dogs into our home. I still would love, though, to do drop-in visits for your small dog or cats. I know that it wouldn't be the same, for them, as having you around, but I'd do my best to stand in.
