Fear-Free-Certified Dog Dude
Pet care experience
I'm Mikey. I love dogs, and have a rescue dog of my own. I’m a Fear-Free Certified Professional (Google ‘Fear Free’ for more info). I have a full-time job, work from home, and have a somewhat-flexible schedule for animal care, which I do part-time. I do mostly walks and drop-in visits. I’m currently unable to do overnight stays, but can visit your pets and home up to 3 times per day while you’re away, and can dog sit for several hours at a time. I've been volunteering at the same rescue that my dog is from since December 2015. I’ve completed all of their advanced dog training, which includes: • Working with shy dogs • Handling large breed and strong dogs • Working with dogs with reactivity (to leash, handling, people, other dogs, etc.) • Dogs with other behavioral issues • Basic dog obedience • Dog body language I also have experience as a mentor to new volunteers, and training them in handling and walking dogs safely. I have experience caring for senior dogs, paralyzed dogs, and dogs with other special needs. I can administer oral and subcutaneous meds. I look forward to meeting your pups! Hot Walks: During the hot days of summer (typically 85 degrees and up), I do not walk dogs on hot pavement, so will always walk on grass or in shade, if possible. This may require a brief ride in my car to a park near your home. Hot days may also mean just time in your yard, if you have one. Depending on the temperature, the walk may be just long enough for your dog to do their business, then we will spend the rest of the time back at your home, so not to overheat your dog. Safety: I carry Pet Corrector and Citronella spray to protect your dog(s) from off-leash dogs, and believe me; it happens all the time. I've had to protect several of my clients' dogs from an attack. You can rest assured that your pet(s) will be safe with me. Dark Walks: I prefer not to walk dogs when it's dark out, as it is too difficult to detect hazards, like off-leash dogs, broken glass, chicken bones, and other dangerous items on the ground. It also is too difficult for vehicles to see me and your dog(s). I can, however, give your dog(s) potty breaks in your yard, or close by your home after dark. Rates/Additional Services: I’m able to offer other amounts of time at different rates, although Rover only lets me list 30/60 mins. This is a change that I can make manually in Rover before we book. I also do vet/groomer trip, or can drop-off your pup at daycare! My rates include Rover's insurance. I also have my own insurance. You may see lower rates from others, but with me you are getting my formal training and experience, and the assurance that your pets and home are safe. Remember when booking a low-cost service that you get what you pay for! :-)
Reviews
My Lexie loves Mikey!! He is very considerate and caring with my pup. He came through for me when I needed someone.
Mikey did a great job with taking care of my dog Zeus while I was away. He also sent me updates which made me feel at ease knowing my dog was in good hands!
We are so happy we found Mikey! He visited with our labs Charlie and Daisy and they warmed up to him right away. When Mikey arrived on the next day they recognized him and off they went wagging their tails.
Our dog walker Miley was wonderful! We were very happy with his service, very dependable and cares a lot about his clients. Our dog was very happy and loved his walks with Mikey! We would highly recommend using him!!
