I have had pets my entire life, from dogs and cats to bunnies and turtles, and everything in between. I grew up in the suburbs but we had friends who raised farm animals. I was always taught how to take care of them. I have never met an animal I didn't love. And I tend to spoil them and talk to them. I've even had friends who had skiddish pets who refused to go by anyone, and they warmed up to me fast. I believe they know a good person. I am engaging with all animals. I would spend extra time with your pet playing, belly rubs, whatever was necessary to help your animal know that even though you aren't there, they are still comforted.
