I am passionate about animals, especially dogs. I owned dogs all my life, as well as trained my personal dogs as an adult in basic and advanced obedience. My black Labrador Retriever, who recently passed away, earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen certification. I live with two police K9's, a single purpose narcotics dog and a mantrailing (human tracking) Bloodhound. I assist my significant other in training both dogs. We obtained the narcotics lab already trained. We received the Bloodhound at 10 weeks old. I conducted desensitization training as well as obedience training with her, and helped teach her how to track. I work full-time in Animal (Canine) Care at the Monmouth County Animal Shelter, one of the oldest shelters in New Jersey. My job involves a wide range of tasks, from daily cleaning and maintenance of canine living areas to assisting veterinarians with animal restraint and disbursement of medications. In my free time, I assist the behavior manager in training dogs with behavior issues to increase their adoptability. I recently earned a certificate of completion as a Veterinary Assistant from Rutgers University. I also am a certified Animal Control Officer through the State of New Jersey. Lastly, my goal is to become a certified as a dog trainer through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, specializing in shelter dogs and their unique needs. Currently, I am available all day Friday and Saturday, and after 4pm the other days of the week for sitting and dog walking.
