Life long animal lover

Pet care experience

***THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS AVAILABILITY*** For Thanksgiving and Christmas we will be travelling. We cannot accept requests unfortunately during this time. We are able to book requests starting the second week of January and a few limited days in the beginning of December. I have been surrounded by dogs, cats and other animals (chickens, rabbits, etc) my entire life. I currently have two dogs- a young Australian Shepherd and a shepherd/Mastiff mix named Bowie. So if your dog likes to play with other dogs, we have you covered!! We also have a baby boy- so our dogs are consistently around children. 😊 Also, I have in past had a senior chihuahua who passed from Congestive Heart Failure at age 14 and a Westie that passed at age 18 from kidney failure. For both dogs, I gained a lot of experience in past with medication management. My aussie is a year old so I know the ins and outs of puppy care as well as the importance of training and being consistent with what you want enforced. Bowie is a docile angel but still playful. Both dogs are up to date on vaccines and are regularly seen by their vet. I am currently working on dog first aid certifications. I have experience with dogs of all sizes and have previously volunteered with animal shelters a few years back. Friends and family consistently ask for me to take care of their own pets while they're out of town or when they're busy. You can expect your dogs/cats to receive lots of affection and attention in my care. Nothing makes me happier than making sure the animals I interact with are happy and excited to see me. If they like fetch or tug of war, or just meandering around and sniffing, I will ensure that they get the enrichment they want. We also have the space to separate dogs or keep them separated if you prefer, as well as gates to ensure this happens. I work full time from home. My meetings fluctuate during the week so feel free to ask. For reoccurring walks/drop ins, I can easily block that time off on my work calendar. With my own pup, we go on at least two walks per day totalling an hour to 1.5 hours each day. One walk is a "sniffari" where she takes the lead on determining where we go. The other is a structured training walk meant to enforce leash manners. Rosé and I play together roughly every two hours for about 15 to 30 minutes. This largely depends on what she wants! This is either fetch, catch or tug-of-war. She also gets a lot of mental stimulation- snufflemats, kongs, training. You name it, we probably work on it.

Very responsive. Sent lots of pictures. Communication was impeccable. Our fur child was well taken care of for a whole week and was super comfortable. Juice loved having other fur friends to spend the week with. Will definitely be booking again in the future. Thank you Michele ❤️

Dogs will not have access to exits unless on a lead. They are blocked off. While in our care, they will have a GPS tracker on them. We have never had an escape and we take precautions to ensure that. We are never gone for more than four hours at a time, but if Jens-Peter & I both leave, your dog will be safely crated in our living room with water accessible. For the most part, they will always have an adult with them. In the event of an emergency, please ensure you have informed your dogs vet that they are in my care and authorize me bringing them in. For true emergencies, I will likely bring them to The Life Center in Leesburg unless you specify otherwise. On walks, even if your dog is extremely friendly, we will not allow other dogs, children or adults to approach and pet them -- we take your dogs security and safety extremely safely and we do not know those approaching. No children will be left unsupervised around dogs (our nephews are older and visit frequently and we have a toddler). If we feel your dog at any point is getting overwhelmed and needs to be removed for their comfort and for human safety, they will be relocated to a safe spot in the house for a few minutes so that way they can recooperate. Like humans, sometimes even dogs need a little bit of alone time and we understand that. Furthermore, dogs will be fed separately from each other. If your dog is a grazer, we will try to accomodate but we cannot leave food down all day. We will offer it at several points in the day (usually every two hours) for about 20 minutes at a time. We also will not - even if provided - give dogs rawhide chews. Any bully sticks we use will be provided in a bully buddy and tossed once the bully stick is small enough.

A typical day

Walks, photos, lots of love, and if your dog is able, happy to bring them to a park or play in a fenced yard! I love walking on trails. I will also spend time, if requested, doing a quick training session based on your parameters. I do not use negative reinforcement techniques with my dog and I will not use negative reinforcement with your dog either. If you want your dog to go swimming, if you want me to plan a fun brain game for them, let me know- I'm happy to work out the details with you!
