Only Happy, Healthy Dogs Need Apply

Pet care experience

Over 15 years professional experience working with dogs. CPR/First Aid certified and a registered business with the county. I have been a groomer, a kennel tech, a vet assistant, and a vet tech. I have worked in animal hospitals, animal shelters, and in a private grooming/boarding home. With us All dogs must be spayed or neutered(6 months and older), be able to safely and non-aggressively interact with other dogs. Vaccination records required for all dogs on property. We require Rabies, DHPP(Distemper/Parvo), Bordetella (canine cough) within 6 months, a negative fecal test for all dogs. I have two locations your dog will get to know. The first is our daycare center on the edge of Port Charlotte and Englewood where we'll go after our early morning potty break. Once there we will spend the day in a fun playful environment with the boarding dogs at the Dog Bed & Breakfast...which I own. At the end of the day we'll either drop your pup off at your home or take him back here to relax, then take a nice leashed walk around the neighborhood before retiring for the night. I enjoy working with dogs that are shy to help them open up and be more comfortable around other dogs. Watching a dog go from unsure when they first start coming here to dragging their "parents" through the door to get inside...or my favorite example, Champ the lab, that sticks his head out of his car and barks his head off so much I can hear him inside. About Me: Hi, my name is Michael. I am very happy to be one of the few that truly love what they do for a living. Watching dogs is my source of income, my world and my joy. I don't have another job to pull me away from watching your little guy all day. I am here all day, every day. I am a big proponent of group play and proper socialization of dogs. Years of working with dogs have developed my observational skills: from making notes on abnormalities of a dog's various "movements" to potential behavioral cues that could be precursors to something more severe. Why I love dog sitting Of course, like most children we have had family dogs but it wasn't till 1998 that I got my first dog of my own. I had long since moved out of the parents home, found myself an apartment and with 2 family members in the hospital for cancer I needed a good dog. I adopted a black lab/rott from a private shelter after seeing an ad for him in the paper "Black lab mix, needs new home, not good with children" Like me :) And his name was Wilson..it had to have been a sign. After adopting him his official name became Wilson Wilson. He got me out of the house when I would have just wanted to become a hermit when I wasn't going to the hospital to visit family. And I needed that. Then years later....he must have been 6 or 7 years old - I went to work and came home to Wilson dragging his back legs around the apartment. No explanation. Vet ordered tests, x-rays, spinal tap, blunt trauma (had them check because I did have roommates)...everything came back negative. On the 3rd day at the vets they were able to get a very tiny reaction when they pinched his toe pads hard...the leg pulled away a little bit. An improvement, a small one but still an improvement. Wilson Wilson remained a very happy dog and very slowly kept showing signs of improvement. So I kept being supportive of him just like he was supportive of me when I needed it. I worked with him on physical therapy as well as perform other duties many others might not find so pleasant. Over time Wilson learned to use a doggy wheelchair while slowly building muscle back to his legs to just be able to stand again and finally walk again. From a situation that first seemed dismal, we ended up having another six happy years together. And thus began my realization of what I was truly meant to do with my life. It was probably the better part of a year before I had him walking again. The vet showed me how to do physical therapy with him, and manually exercise his bladder. They showed me how to perform Sub-C fluid treatments. A friend of a friend heard about my rehabilitating Wilson and wanted me to come work for her caring for and helping her groom dogs. And that was the beginning of it all. I've since gone on to becoming a kennel tech, a vet assistant, and a vet tech. I've worked in animal shelters, animal hospitals and private kennels. My favorite has always been the care of the dogs. Meet my pets Michael Wilson is the Managing Partner/Owner of The Dog Bed & Breakfast LLC with over 14 years experience in working with animals in animal hospitals, shelters, kennels and grooming facilities. Graduate of the Veterinary Technical Institute’s Small Animal Technician diploma program. My biggest detriment to advancing in the veterinary field was my unwillingness to leave the animals “in the back”, unattended, unloved, and bored to “go up front” to help with routine animal checkups. I was happier in the kennel area making sure everyone had water, a chance for some fresh air, and to make sure their cages were clean. About my yard When we go for the day to the Dog B&B we have a fenced in yard with artificial grass - then we leave there and make the drive home together - take our nightly leashed walk and its bed time....by that time they're ready for it. My experience administering medication Oral, ear, and injections I've done it all except administer the rabies vaccine.

Mike is everything you would want in a pet care giver—-very educated in pet health, well-qualified, very attentive, and THE most loving human friend your dog could have. I highly recommend Mike for dog sitting , dog walking, and whatever else your pet might need. My dog also gives him two paws up!

We are so pleased bringing our little boy Sammie to daycare at Dog Bed and Breakfast. Mike takes such good care of Sammie and Sammie just loves to run and play with the other pups. Sammie is a yorkie and at first I was a little worried leaving him there with big dogs... only to learn by the pictures and videos Mike sends us - it appears that Sammie acts as if he is the biggest dog there. Every morning at about 7:45 Sammie starts dancing around letting me know that it's time to go. He just loves it there. Nothing makes me happier than to see how happy Sammie is and we love the fact that Mike keeps us posted on what Sammie is doing by sending us videos and pictures. I highly recommend Dog Bed and Breakfast to anyone looking to send their pup to camp and/or boarding

We took our dog Owen to Micheal for daycare. Michael went out of his way to make Owen feel comfortable. He is very knowledgable and responsible. Owen immediately took to him and had a very positive experience. I would highly recommend Michael to look after your furry family member!! I know Owen looks forward to seeing him when we return!!
