Pet care experience

I don’t think that there really is anything better in life than bringing happiness into the world. Whether that be human or canine happiness, it’s my job to make people and puppies happy! Being a dog sitter really is a dream come true for me, because it allows me to do what I do best: provide awesome care to great dogs and their owners. I’m a people pleaser, so doing the best for people (and pups!) is just what comes second nature to me. I don’t think my life would be complete without a dog in it! I grew up on a farm surrounded by tons of different animals, and my childhood dogs were a Chihuahua and a Norwegian Elkhound. Since then, I’ve been taking care of dogs big and small, so pups of all stripes are welcome! I have no breed restrictions, although I do have a soft spot in my heart for massive dogs that think that they’re lap dogs! When taking on a new client, I typically like to schedule a meet-and-greet. It’s a great way to make sure that we’re all a good fit for one another, which is so important to me. Likewise, it gives us the opportunity to chat face-to-face about your pup and your care expectations. No one knows your dog better than you do, so it’s always great to chat with owners in person about what makes their pup tick! Finally, I just love meeting new dogs! I like to get down on their level to show them that I’m a welcome presence here to make friends, and I’m sure we’ll be best buddies in no time at all. My goal is to make you and your pup feel completely comfortable and well taken care of during a stay. For me, I believe that great communication is the best way to make that happen. Even before the stay starts, I like to chat and get a good idea about what makes your pup happy and what your care expectations are. That way, I can already start designing the dream stay for your pup. When they’re under my care, I’ll provide detailed daily updates on anything you need to be in the know on—from meal prep to exercises times to particular behaviors.

I use Michael all the time to check in on my ginger cat, Poppy. He’s reliable, always sends photos, and is so easy to work with - Poppy can be pretty shy around strangers but she always comes out to see him! Michael is a natural.

Michael was wonderful in watching my 2 greyhounds. The dogs were in good spirits when I came home and Michael left my apartment looking as it did when I left. I received the right amount of updates and pictures. I will definitely ask Michael if he is available when I need a dog-sitter. Thanks, Michael.

Information Michael S. would like to know about your pet

Some things I like to learn ahead of time: Would you like to schedule a meet-and-greet before the stay? What’s your preferred method of communication? Does your pup have any health issues that need to be tended to? For instance, dietary restrictions, medicine, or behavior triggers? Do you have a vet nearby that you trust? Is your dog spayed/neutered? Does your pup like to stick to a given schedule, like regular walks in the morning and evening? What does your pup do well around? What does your pup try to avoid? What’s the best way to spoil your pup?

A typical day

We would start our morning with a walk through the park on our way to get coffee. After a quick nap together, we would have our lunch and a quick trip around the block. If it's a nice day, we may just have lunch outside and enjoy the scenery! After a quick bite together (and making a few friends along the way), we’d head home to kick back and relax for a little bit. Around dinner time, it’s time for the evening walk with a little twist! Since it’s Tuesday, the new eatery around the corner has a "Yappy Hour" where dogs are welcome and encouraged to meet new friends out on the patio. After a long busy day its finally cuddle time after a quick dinner and the newest episode of our favorite Netflix series. I live in Columbia Heights just around the corner from Target, Giant, and yes even Petco! I live a couple blocks to lively park, Meridian Hill. I share a Studio with 1 cat who doesn’t take up too much space and is always curious to see who the new friends are.
