Experienced Care, Flexible Schedule

Pet care experience

I’m a longtime Humboldt community member (26 years), avid cyclist, and lifetime animal lover. I currently have one shelter rescue cat, Batty, who I fell in love with at the Humboldt Animal Rescue Team (HART) shelter where I volunteer every week. I have taken in many stray or abandoned dogs and cats over the course of my lifetime; always getting them their shots and a vet exam, followed up with spay/neutering, and regular vet care. I treat animals with love and kindness while being firm and consistent about behavioral expectations. I treat your pets in my care as I would my own. I can also care for birds, furry critters, some reptiles, and fish. I have always had a special affinity with cats; I’m usually the guy at the party who is in the other room playing with the cat.

Michael is an amazing pet sitter. I rely on him every time I go out of town and need someone to watch my animals. He is caring, attentive, loving with my pets, and trustworthy. He listens to and makes sure that all my instructions (special food, medicine, etc) are taken care of with each of my animals. I trust him in my home and with the lives of my fur babies. He checks in with me regularly and gives me updates on how my animals are doing. I never feel like I have to worry when he's on the job. Michael is also good in an emergency situation. One of my cats came down with an internal infection while I was was out of town. Michael immediately noticed the different behavior of my cat and contacted me. We determined that the cat should go to the vet, and Michael took that on with no hesitation. He then got the meds, made sure she took them three times a day until I got home, and generally went over and above what I would expect of a pet sitter. I recommend Michael 100000% for any pet sitting job.

I have known Mike for many years, and he has cared for my pets, often at the drop of a hat, many times. He has house-sit multiple weeks at a time when I was out of the country on vacation and cared for my cats like he would his own. I have know him to always be caring for someone’s dog (once for two years when the owner was in the Peace Corps). He’s been a volunteer in the Humboldt Community from board service with Humboldt Animal Rescue Team to Friends of the Dunes. A trustworthy guy with a big heart for animals!

I worked with Mike as a volunteer for a few years at a local animal shelter, he's also house sat for me for a few weeks while I was on vacation. He is trustworthy, reliable, and an excellent choice for watching your pet or house-sitting. Five stars⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I can provide drop-in visits or stay at your home with your pets, not only feeding, providing fresh water, and cleaning up poop and/or litter box, but taking dogs for a walk, playtime, and providing your pets with love and attention, and assuring them that everything is ok, and that their people will be back soon. I will spend time getting to know your pets, earning their trust, and offering my friendship. I’m also available for 30-60 minute dog walks. I’m always happy to text you updates and photos while caring for your pets. I’m a member of Pet Sitters International, the association of professional pet sitters, listed as Pet Sitting Stays, LLC and insured through Pet Care Insurance (PCI).

Information Michael S. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your pet has any special needs, likes/dislikes, and obviously any behavioral traits that might compromise someone’s safety. Does your dog get along well with others? How are they on the leash? Are there any medications? Do they have any health issues to be aware of?

A typical day

It’s important that during our walk, your dog(s) are allowed the time to stop and take in all the important smells, and not be rushed; this is their time. If it’s a drop-in visit, I will change your pet’s water, feed them, let dog(s) out for potty break and clean cat litter boxes; I can provide a short walk if needed. For overnight stays, all of this plus more playtime and brushing for sure! Are there any tricks your dog can do? Be sure to let me know; as you know, it’s important to stimulate their minds.
