I grew up with a lovely chocolate lab, Chunky, and have loved dogs ever since. I'm a professor at USC, and so am able to work from home. I have a great apartment right by the beach and near several parks. Caring for dogs helps remind me to put the outdoor amenities to good use by going for frequent walks and runs. I offer frequent walks in the park and along the water, jogging, play time, petting, clean crisp ocean air, filtered water, a great apartment with plenty of open space to play, an enclosed outdoor common space (with grass and trees), and a great view for a small, friendly, well-behaved dog (preferably that gets along well with others). My apartment is right near a grassy park and right near the beach and a short walk from a dog park. I prefer to only take in dogs from one family at a time, but there will occasionally be some overlap, especially in high-demand periods. In those situations, I'll arrange a meet and greet beforehand, inquire about friendliness of the dogs, and offer to cancel you out at no charge if you're uncomfortable with the other dogs. I took care of dogs for several years while I lived in NYC (when I was working from home) and would like to do the same now that I'm in California. I have an adorable 5 month old cavapoo puppy (Goose), around 10 pounds, so I can only accommodate dogs that play well with others. Goose is a sweetheart, but seems to especially like poodle mixes (cockapoos, cavapoos, etc.), bichon frese's, dachshunds, and similar small dogs, as well as spaniels and cavalier kind Charles Spaniels. I look forward to meeting you and your pet soon! I'm a tenured professor and work from home several days a week when class is in session. I'm home full time during the summer and winter terms. I live in a large clean, one bedroom apartment in a secure building with front desk security, solid core doors, and an enclosed area with grass for dogs to play, close to the beach, parks, and dog parks. Note that my profile says there is a fenced in yard. This is in reference to a large fenced off grassy area between the two buildings in my complex. It's a common space, but only residents and their guests have access. Resident dogs will frequently play with each other here. I offer walks in the morning and evening and potty breaks at midday, for a total of 3 to 4 times outdoors per day. I'll go more or less if the dog indicates that they need it. My home is clean, uncluttered and pleasant. I will also often try to wipe my canine guests' feet off when they come back inside from a walk outside, and run roombas and bravas (robot vacuums and mops) frequently, and try to have cleaners come once every week or two. I attach a tracker (an Apple Airtag) to my dog guest's collars or harnesses during their stay as an added safety measure. This tracker reports their location back to me (if they are within bluetooth distance of an iPhone), in the unlikely event that they run off during a walk and disappear from sight. (This has never happened to me; it's just a precaution). I prefer a minimum stay of two nights so your pup and I have longer to get acquainted. Longer stays are generally preferable. If you need an extended stay, I may be able to offer you a lower daily rate. I do not accommodate dogs that nip, bite, or growl at people. I have a god, so I can only accommodate dogs that get along well with other dogs. Please also let me know if your lovely pet has a tendency to chew on things so I can be extra careful to keep objects other than toys inaccessible. If your dog needs to be exclusively boarded, I may be able to refer you to a friend.
