Cats are my passion! <3

Pet care experience

I was raised alongside dogs and cats since I was born! They add a spice to life that is unmatched and offer both challenges and love in unique ways that is unlike anything else. I couldn't live a life with pets in it to some degree -- I used to buy wet food for the strays when I didn't own any pets of my own. I have had over 25 cats and dogs in my care on a personal basis (either owned or fostered for more than a few weeks). I own 3 cats of my own now -- Mochi, Leia, and Luffy (Loo-fee). I have volunteered for Paws 2 Help as well as Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League down in West Palm Beach, FL, which involved overall maintenance of the shelters as well as fostering kittens. I would often go there in my leisure time to just sit in the rooms with the cats and dogs, giving them my attention and love. I have administered oral and topical medication to both dogs and cats and also have experience with daily Insulin injections as my now passed dog (RIP Stewart 2016 <3) had needed it for his diabetes. I also maintained and monitored foster kittens' litter and stool, checked their weights daily, and socialized them to prepare them for adoption.

Mia was great! Very sweet with our kitties, and took great care of our house. She sent pictures, let us know how each of the cats were adjusting, cleaned up after a couple of incidents, and generally made us feel like our babies were well taken care of. Mia was responsive and a great communicator.

Mia was terrific with our two babies...two 6 month old kittens! We had her stay overnight to make sure they were happy and safe, and they were! She took care of them as if they were her own, and cuddled with them overnight. She left our house so clean that we wouldn't have known she was there...and we appreciate that. We highly recommend her and would love to have her back to take care of our babies during our next trip!

Loved Mia! She took such great care for our cat, and was very thorough with great attention to detail. So grateful for the peace of mind while we were gone!

Of course I am flexible to how you prefer I care for your pets. Just let me know and I will make it happen! Typically, I like to allow plenty of room to run around and freedom to watch outside through windows and sliding-glass doors. I enjoy watching the reaction out of pets, both dogs and cats, when they see a squirrel or bird outside :) I always ensure that they have available water to hydrate whenever needed and make sure to keep an eye on their weight and food behaviors to ensure a healthy relationship with food. I like to keep toys around to encourage a positive relationship between me and them so they feel safe with me and enjoy interactions between not just me, but anybody who wants to play! Something I have learned to do recently through one of my first ever pet sitting was to turn on Cat TV via Youtube for any of the cats I watch -- they LOVE chirping and crying at the screen with the birds and the squirrels that pop in and out. It's adorable, and it lets them get that "hunt" energy out of their system.

I like to know if there are any behavioral concerns, if they are quick to run out the door (escape artist!), if they have bad habits that need correction or a close eye, if they're food motivated or otherwise, if they have habits like peeing outside the litterbox/in places they shouldn't, if they take any medications, things like that.

A typical day

I love to find out what kind of personality they have: if they're silly, quiet, quirky, snooty, etc. It makes it that much more fun to spend time with them and it helps me to find out what kind of play or company they prefer. If it's a dog: I love playing tug of war or jumping around to get them to get the zoomies. Offering them my presence to relax or play, examining their body language to ensure that they feel safe with me and don't feel threatened or afraid. Paying attention to their behavior to watch if they need to go to the bathroom, if they need a walk, etc. I know dogs like to lay in the sunshine, so as frequently as I can get them to spend time outside, I will! If it's a cat: I like to quietly check in on them to see how they're doing, ensure that they are safe and no change in behavior overnight. I'll get to their level (usually on the ground) and offer my hand for pets if they're interested, let them get comfortable with my scent. No fast movements, I know cats are sensitive to that, especially with new people. I'll offer treats for positive interactions and play with them with their favorite toys. I know it's important for them to get some play in their day, otherwise it can encourage restlessness or aggressive play between them and other cats, or me!

I work remotely, so I'm able to go anywhere! This allows me to work from your home all day or even just for a thirty minute check in. I'm happy to keep you pets company while I work (: My job isn't so demanding that I won't give your pets the attention they need, I'm able to balance it well! I don't work weekends with my regular job, so that allows me flexibility there. I usually will pop back home to get a shower or run out to get something to eat for a short time, but I will never leave your pets alone for too long of a time, especially not against what we agree upon!
