I’ve been taking care of dogs since I was 10 and started house sitting for my neighbors and word spread quickly! A few years later my family got a Border Collie and a year later, a Pitbull mix came along! Our Border Collie had pretty high energy levels until she was about 7 years old (13 now) and our pit (11) developed some pretty serious reactivity to other dogs and people. My girlfriend Kenya and I currently have an 11 month old Australian Shepherd puppy who we found on Craigslist as he was too much for his previous owner. I have lots of experience with high energy dogs, and believe that a tired dog is a happy dog. However, that doesn’t just involve physical exercise, but also mental exercise. I’ve been training our Aussie pup since we got him so I’m very patient with teaching dogs new behaviors. We’ve worked on tricks as well as the basics and some more advanced obedience work, to include a solid off leash recall. I do have some experience with reactivity from my childhood dog, and am patient with them working through their big feelings toward other dogs and people.
