dogs are men best friend
Pet care experience
Hello, My name is Merlyn. I am the owner of two amazing shiba Inu, ivy and hachi. I moved to Albany to attend college and got a degree in biology double minor psychology and neuroscience. This lead me to opening a daycare and I took in 12 children ages ranging from 6 weeks old - 3 y.o. Now that I am back in Brooklyn I have a vision of opening a doggie daycare because my dogs are perfectly fine with doing activities during the day. They enjoy runs, the beach, parks, hikes you name it. I’d love to get more dogs to enjoy life with us! It will take time I am sure to get this project going but I believe we will make a great program once we get Some 4 legged friends in. I want to invest in bringing a trainer in to help us with training and a vet at least once a month and more frequently if we get a lot of them. As you may already know, our puppies stomach is very acidic and their digestive system is meant to destroy bacteria in their food. As of 500 years ago there was no dog food around. Go online and find out why dog food was created... If interested in raw feeding let me know, do your research before hand if interested! My two dogs are on a raw food diet. So far not one trip to the vet and their results have always come out normal and healthy. If you’re not interested that is also fine you can bring your dogs favorite food! I am willing to invest as much as I can to get us up and going, the people that will be helping us in the future, transportation, trips and food. We live in a subbasement there store they have a lot of space to themselves besides our apartment. My father is the super therefore we have other rooms available for training and playing when the weather doesn’t permit us to go to the backyard. We have two buildings worth of backyard. I spend the whole day with my two dogs when I am not at work, we go for walks and a morning run every day. Our schedule consist of: breakfast run 45 minutes play time Training nap time Grooming Backyard Lunch Walk for an hour-2 hours Play time Training Free time (inside) Dinner Walk for an hour Meet at their buddies house occasionally or Play in the backyard Free time for the rest of the evening (inside) Please be aware that I switch out activities every day for the sake of giving my dogs more things to do, they are subjected to change but not entirely. I would keep you updated every day as to what we do differently. They eat and sleep in their cages. I clean them out and disinfect the platters and their bowls after every meal. Their blankets and cushion covers are washed every 3 days. Your pup will also be following this schedule, we will provide the cages for their meals and naps, this way they learn that the cage is not design for time out I do not believe in timeout, if a puppy pees or poops in your house it would be my fault for not taking them out on time. I do not have valuable pieces around for them to destroy but they have their own toys to play with (shibas are very destructive) but this is why they have their own space outside of the apartment for the time I am not home. Once we start the puppy daycare there will always be someone in charge in case we have to run out for an emergency. I’d greatly appreciate it if you support our vision. God bless! 🐾
Reviews
This is actually a very late review due to my life getting busy so I apologize. Merlyn took care of my dog earlier this year in January. She was a great owner to my dog Milo. she was patient and even gave me tips that could help on Milo. Milo is calm dog however he did have issues with pulling a bit on his leash so she came up with a method to help with his pulling since I did not have a slip leash. I even used the lesson she taught with actually getting a real training collar and added my own tricks to it from a youtube video that Merlyn recommended to me to help Milo which worked perfectly. You can see that she truly care for dogs even giving me updates and such.
I wouldn’t suggest this sitter to anyone and I am only being transparent. Merlyn and I had a meet and greet for her to meet my pup, she saw an 8 month old energetic pup and said he would be in great hands. She had all these plans with him and asked if it was okay to bring him to Albany with her other two dogs so they could go hiking. I agreed! I later dropped my pup off, I got absolutely no updates on the first day, didn’t see any photos or anything even though both myself and my wife asked for many photos. Day 2, she started complaining that my dog would bark and apparently the neighbors were complaining. Mind you, the dog is in a new environment so to some, this may be normal. I had to then work on finding someone to pick my dog up (I was out of the country) then paying for their services to take care of my dog. This service that was supposed to take away the stress of worrying became stressful. I suggest she stops doing rover if she will only stress out the owners. I’d never suggest. Look elsewhere
Merlyn did a great job taking care of Phoebe while I was traveling for a week and a half. She provided plenty of exercise, care, and affection to Phoebe and improved her behavior. I was updated often on Phoebe’s condition with photos and video. Overall, I highly recommend her for the future.
Merlyn was great with my 140lb Mastiff. She was professional and confident and continually kept me informed during the two weeks that my dog was with her. It is clear that she loves her own pets and loved mine like one of her own. Many thanks!
