OPEN HEARTS & AN EMPTY HOUSE

Pet care experience

I have owned and cared for animals. my whole life. Cats, dogs, horses, mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. My father was a dog trainer in the Marines and I learned alongside of him. Have worked in animal rescue and rehabilitation for w0 years. Skilled in training, behavioral issues, medication administration, and socialization. I am a recent transplant from NYC. I work from my home office, my husband owns his own company as well and works out of the house. We have no two legged little ones but spend our days with our furry kids a Great Dane rescue, a German Shepherd, and our diabetic cat. They think we bought them a dog park of their own but we have tried telling them it is just a back yard. They are spoiled rotten and are more than happy to have friends over to play. I am home all day Monday - Friday a normal day would start with a morning potty break, followed by breakfast around 7am. Then we move it to the office downstairs. The dogs are in and out all day long and there is plenty of time for play. We normally have group outside time or a walk in the evening, followed by dinner, and lounging around for the night. We have about an acre of property and live on a quiet cul-de-sac. Our yard is set up for have dogs who do well off leash. We also have runs and kennels for those who like to run like the safety of a confined space. We have a large covered deck with a gate and a fan for lounging. We have a doggie pool and outdoor doggie water fountain to cool off. We have an enclosed Catio for the felines who like to get some fresh air. Our home is set up with a private suite and private entrance for animals who do not socialize well or need their own space. We live on a quiet cul-de-sac, are extremely active and love to go on walks, hikes, and trips to the dog park. I also have a kitty caddy for the cats like our that like to tag along. Furry friends have full range of the house they are welcome to curl up near the fire place, they can snuggle up on the bed or couch in the guest suite, if they are couch commandos like our lot there are plenty of blankets and comfy spots on the sectional to nap or sleep for the night. Furry friends are welcome in the bedroom, only rule is everyone gets their own blanket (this rule applies to humans and four legged friends)

Pookie was treated as part of the family while she was there. I received pictures almost daily and since I had never left her with anyone and she is 11 years old, I wasn't sure how she would react. I couldn't have given her better care, and I couldn't have found a better place to leave her while I was gone. Really a five star experience.

Great experience - my pups were happy when I dropped them off and equally happy when I picked them up - Melissa was sweet with sending many photos of my girls during their stay - would not hesitate to use them again - thanks for taking such good care of my fur-babies ???

Melissa & Palmerio we’re excellent sitters who provided adequate updates and pictures. They treated Scout like family and Scout seemed to really enjoy the company of their two dogs. Melissa & Palmerio also went above and beyond at the request of my fiancé to ensure Scout made an appearance at our wedding. It was a huge ask on our part but without hesitation, this couple made it happen. All around a great experience and if we are ever in need of a sitter in Chattanooga, we would 100% book with them again!

When I booked I was under the impression that Melissa was going to be caring for the pets she boarded. When I dropped off my cat her husband answered the door and quickly took my cats things out of our hands and closed the door and left out of sight. He returned a few seconds later and was going to grab my cat carrier but I said I really wanted to set her up and see the space. I was greeted by 2 large dogs that were barking like crazy. I could feel my cat jump inside the carrier. He took me downstairs where I saw a dog sitting in a crate. He looked like a pit bull or mix. But he was in a crate not roaming free. I took my cat into what was supposed to be a spare bedroom. It was a mess. Not that my cat would mind so I lset her up and left her. Now her husband works from home but has clients in and out from what I understood but I didn’t know Melissa wasn’t going to be there until I was on the road. So my cat and the other dog in the crate were left alone presumably until she got home as her husband was working. My husband also works from home and I know that his schedule would never allow him to have time to interact with anything other than his computer. I felt bad for the dog who stayed in a crate. I have a cat who only likes me so I’m sure they would never get a chance to really interact with her. I’m sure my cat was fine but I don’t think I will use them again. The whole way the husband wanted to take everything himself so I wouldn’t come in was a turn off. I would never let my cat stay where I didn’t see it first. If we were not on our way out of town I would’ve left right there and then. Plus those dogs barking I’m sure kept my cat on edge. She has not left my side since we got home. She is never that way.

A typical day

Living on a quiet cul-de-sac in a quite sub division we are lucky enough to have access to miles of open road to go on nice long walks through the hills. We are also a short distance away to some of our favorite hiking locations and love to visit local waterfalls. We have a dog park right down the street that we frequent at least once a week. Sometimes we just like to enjoy the backyard, break out all the toys, the doggie pool, and explore the creek behind our home. My husband is around as well to lend and extra hand if needed. He is known for giving the best belly rubs.
