Experienced and loving dog care
Pet care experience
Growing up in a household with multiple dogs and cats made me a person who can't imagine life without pets. I've had my current dog and cat for seven years and nine years respectively, and they are essential parts of my family. I have been training dogs on a non-professional level since 2002, and I have provided care for multiple foster dogs. (I don't currently have any foster pets.) I also worked with pit bull rescue programs (placements, fostering, volunteer events) while I lived in Indianapolis. I am a very active person who enjoys hiking, running, and cycling, and when the weather is cooler I enjoy taking my dog on runs. I frequent the dog parks in Ann Arbor, so if your dog is registered, these will be fun excursions.
Reviews
Melissa is awesome! She genuinely cared for Ginger and I felt comfortable going on my trip knowing that ginger had her. Thank you so much Melissa!
Melissa is easy to communicate with. Our 84lb doodle seemed to do well while staying with Melissa and two other dogs during our Thanksgiving travels.
Melissa did a great job of taking care of our Sunny when we were out of town. He came home happy and tired!
Melissa was incredible with my 6 month old puppy! It was my first time leaving her and I appreciated how quick she was to respond to messages and send me updates. She also made sure Korra got lots of exercise and enrichment. When I came to pick Korra up, she seemed to be right at home at Melissa’s place. Will definitely rebook :)

I have a fully fenced in yard and am outside with animals anytime they are outside. Boarding animals have full reign of my first floor (my basement is reserved for my cat, who is often nervous around new animals). I do daily hour-long walks (2-3 miles), and will walk more if I have the time. I also dedicate around 30 minutes of afternoon time to play, and I do small sessions of dog training in the morning with breakfast. This is optional--if you would like me to exercise your dog, physically or mentally, let me know! On weekends, I take my dogs on long hikes and would be happy to bring your pup if they are acclimated to walking 5-10 miles at once.

Information Melissa N. would like to know about your pet
Answering the following questions will help me better accommodate your needs: -Will you provide proof of shots, vaccines, and flea treatment? -Does your dog have any special needs? -What is your dog's typical behavior and personality like? -Does your dog have separation anxiety? -Has your dog been into any altercations or fights with cats, other dogs, or people? -Does your dog eat at designated times or eat casually throughout the day? -Does your dog need to be crated? (I have a large crate if needed.) -How is your dog off-leash? -What else would you like me to know?
A typical day
I'm an avid outdoorsman (outdoorsperson?) who has a house with a fully fenced in yard in a dog-friendly neighborhood. I enjoy running and hiking local trails with my dogs (when the temperature isn't too high). I also take my dogs to the park weekly. If your dog loves to exercise, I'm happy to bring them along with me on a run! Other than that, we can enjoy multiple walks daily along with just chilling in my backyard.

Availability
I work full time with flexible hours less than 2 miles from my home. During the week, I typically ride my bike to work and return home for lunch and a dog walk in the middle of the day, so any animals who stay with me will be alone for 4-5 hours maximum. On the weekends, I am typically here the whole weekend.
