Pet care experience
I've been pet sitting for friends and neighbors since I was about 9 years old. Within that time I've taken care of caged animals like guinea pigs, fish, dogs and cats. My two current furbabies (both dogs) are 17 years old and 1 year old. I've had the 17 year old since she was 4 years old and the 1 year old since she was two months old so I have experience with a big age range and variety of needs. Though I have no formal training experience I have trained my dogs and friends/ family members dogs using positive reinforcement methods. I am educated on muzzle training and if that is something that makes your pet more comfortable or keeps them or others safe I will happily use the muzzle you provide on walks and outings.

Melissa is fabulous!! She takes such great care of my little guy. I have booked her several times and she is the best with taking Fitz to do fun things and sending me pictures throughout the stay. She’s so easy to work with!! I know Fitz loves staying with her! Melissa is the best!

I will care for your pet how I would want mine cared for- this means you will get pictures and/or updates of your pet while I'm caring for them. I do ask you leave a list with any commands you're working on, unique challenges/fears of your pet and any dietary / medical needs- ex: allergies, medication, injury/arthritis, fear of noises, reactivity etc. I'm open to walking your pet in a variety of areas including those they are most familiar with, on hikes, grassy walks, or other outing such as dog parks. I have two friendly dogs myself and if you and your dog(s) are open to it we could have some play dates. Depending on your dogs energy level my 17 year old may opt to stay home or in her backpack. I generally take mine on hikes, to dog parks and outings for doggie ice cream or a swim and would be more than happy to do the same with yours. If I am transporting your pet I have one extra doggie seatbelt that would clip on to their harness. If they do not have a harness and are smaller I have an extra they may use. I also have a car hammock so they are double safe. I also enjoy working on training and skills so of there is anything you and your dog are working on let me know and I can reinforce these commands with them using your hand signals (if you use hand signals). I am also open to watching and playing with other animals including cats and caged animals.

I would like to know if your dog(s) are fearful of certain things or reactive to anything we may encounter. I would also like to know about any medical or dietary needs as I often use treats to reinforce good behavior and want to make sure I plan the time spent with your dog at the best pace for your dog. I would also like to know how they are on a leash, their regular schedule/routine and anything else you'd like to share.
A typical day
I can work on training based on the commands you're working on, I can also come up with other ways to mentally stimulate your pup such as snuffle mats and filled kongs. I'm also up for taking your dogs on hikes, kayaking, and to dog parks!

Availability
In general I am most free on weekends and usually spend that time with my own two dogs. During the week I work full time and am generally free after 5:30 for walks or drop in visits. I have the ability some times to work from home and my work and school schedule often changes so it is best to reach out directly with your time needs. My general availability does not guarantee that I will always be available at those days and times but if we books something I can guarantee I will be available to provide the services agreed upon during the time we agreed upon.
