Long-time dog mom

Pet care experience

I can't imagine my life without a dog. I grew up with dogs and have had dogs (all rescues) for the last nine years. I have also fostered dogs and am familiar with the quirks and behaviors they tend to exhibit after living in rough conditions. I believe all dogs are precious. My dogs are my babies, and I strive to give them the best care possible. I would love to do the same for your pup. I live in a very dog-friendly neighborhood with plenty of sidewalks and parks nearby. Our single-family home has a fully fenced yard and lanai that the pups like to relax on. I have experience caring for puppies, senior dogs, small dogs, rescues, and dogs with special dietary needs. I am Pet Tech® CPR and First Aid certified, so I am prepared to handle feline and canine emergencies. We do prefer small to medium-sized dogs, as that tends to work best for our dogs. I am home all day, so I can focus on watching over the little ones. My husband helps out in the evenings and weekends. I dog sit through Rover for the love of dogs. For me, this is a chance for my dogs to make new friends and for me to give back as a fellow dog owner who knows how hard it can be to find an experienced, trustworthy dog sitter. When possible, I try to limit stays to one client at a time, but please understand that there may be instances of overlap with a dog from another household. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to giving your dog the same great care I expect for my own dogs.

We felt so great going on our trip knowing our dogs were in such good hands. We got daily pictures and they looked like they were having a blast! Melissa treated them as if they were one of her family and we were so grateful they were so loved while we were on vacation. We can't say enough good things about our experience!

Melissa was very flexible and helpful. We would rebook with her anyday! She kept us posted about our pet, and made us feel very confident that "blanche" was happy and being well taken care of.

We needed to find a great, loving sitter for our elderly Jack Russell Terrier Rascal as we were going out of the country for 12 days. Melissa had experience with older dogs and through our email dialogue, I could tell our pup would be in great hands. We recommend Melissa without reservation -- her home is well equipped for boarding and your precious pup will be very well taken care of!

Information Melissa L. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know how I can make your dog's stay comfortable and relaxing. - What’s your dog’s typical routine (e.g. walking, eating, sleeping)? - Is your dog potty-trained or crate-trained? - Does your dog have health or medical issues (e.g. allergies, dietary restrictions)? - Does your dog have any behavioral issues, fears, or quirks (e.g. fear of thunder, leash reactivity to other dogs)? - What kind of behavior does your dog find annoying from other dogs? - What is your dog’s favorite activity? I appreciate your candid response. I will do my best to accommodate your dog but cannot do so effectively without being informed in advance. My goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and happy home-like environment for your dog. NOTE: 1. When you send your booking request, please include drop-off and pick-up times. Drop-off and pick-up are by appointment only. 2. Please understand that the boarding rate covers a 24-hour period. A daycare charge of $30 will apply if your pup's stay exceeds that. I try to be flexible and allow a four-hour grace period. 3. If this is your first time with us, please send or bring proof of vaccinations. This is required for everyone’s safety. 4. Please make you sure your dog's nails are trimmed to prevent injury to me and other dogs. 5. Please ensure that your dog is up-to-date on his/her flea & tick treatment and heartworm prevention. I do not charge extra for administering meds or applying flea & tick treatment. Your pup's health is my priority while under my care. Thank you!

A typical day

We will go for walks and play in the backyard several times a day. If you allow, we can take your dog on a hike. I use an app during walks, so St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital gets 25 cents for every mile walked. Dogs can freely roam around the main level of our puppy-proof home. We can also play as a group or one-on-one in our finished basement, which is fully carpeted. Your dog can sleep in our bedroom if your dog prefers. We want your dog to feel like part of the family and not like a guest. When your dog stays with us, they get unlimited filtered water (chilled and replenished often), snuggles, belly rubs, supervised play outside, walks, and treats (if permitted by you). Please bring their: bed, crate (if they use one), food, collar with ID tag, leash, harness (if they use one), and any treats they prefer. I have extra bowls, small beds, blankets, poop bags, and toys. Food bowls are washed after every meal; water bowls are washed daily. I like to keep things sanitary and clean, so I appreciate your help by making sure your pups and their belongings are clean as well.
