No one knows your pet better than you, so I always make sure I pay attention and heed the advice and instructions of the owner about how their pet likes to be treated. Some dogs love to be played with and perform tricks to get treats, while other dogs are nervous or in the process of learning not to jump on people when they first walk in. Likewise, cats have very different personalities and must be treated as indiviuals. Some cats run to the door like a dog to be greeted and picked up, while others would prefer to be left alone since you are not their human (though I usually win them over quickly!).
