Canine Comfort Home

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Melanie, I am 24 years old and I just moved to Salt Lake City, UT. I have been dog sitting since I was 14 years old and I am an aspiring dog trainer! My former career as an RBT (registered behavior technician) gave me a solid foundation in the principles of behavior analysis. Through the years I have been regularly volunteering at my local animal shelters and spending time with dogs who could benefit from some training in order to make them more likely to be adopted! I love animals, I love being around them, and I love helping the relationship between pet and pet owner. I will be starting my Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program in fall of 2024 and want to spend the time before that doing what I love and saving up to pay for grad school. I am accessible 24/7 and provide frequent pictures/videos/updates as much as you’d like! I would be honored to be your pet’s temporary home away from home.

Melanie was incredible for our high energy puppy! She was around all the time and never had to leave him home alone. She worked on dog training as well and provided plenty of updates. Highly recommend and would use Melanie again!

Melanie was so great with Peanut! Peanut felt so comfortable with her! She kept her routine of just lounging and hanging out, taking naps and enjoying snacks! I felt very at ease on vacation knowing Melanie was caring for my old lady baby Peanut :)

Safety, trust & environment

Coming from a home care and animal shelter background, safety is the number one priority when providing care for your pet. I am well versed in reading a dog’s body language, careful when allowing contact with another dog (even if he is the friendliest!), and take all proper precautions when allowing a dog to acclimate to a new environment or me! I follow all given routines and schedules from pet owners and will send plenty of pictures/videos for peace of mind!

Information Melanie C. would like to know about your pet

I would just like to be made aware of any medical needs, allergies, any certain triggers that will cause a reaction in a pet that I should look out for. I'm honestly willing to cater to every need I just would like to be informed so that I can handle each possible scenario accordingly. I have no dog breed preferences I will adjust to each one of them!

A typical day

This is a very open-ended answer for me because my activities will be mostly dependent on your pet’s needs/temperament/breed. If you have a very high energy and work driven breed then we will most definitely be playing games that stimulate their minds, running around in my backyard, working on maintaining any commands they’re used to. On the flip side if I am with a low energy/senior pet and they prefer to sleep then I will just make sure they have a comfortable spot to do that! I will always listen to the owner and their wants for their pet. I believe I have the resources to accommodate any type of pet. I have a private home with a backyard and park in my neighborhood.
