I volunteer at PAWS (dog shelter) and work with all kinds of dogs. My own dog (adopted at age 4 months) is now 10. Before that I had a cat for 20 years. I love all animals and have experience working with all types of dogs (friendly, shy, leash-pullers, anxious, food motivated, non-food motivated, etc)

Melanie is fantastic! My husky Apollo has separation anxiety and usually will not eat for several days when I leave. She came up with a creative way to get him eating his food on the first day. She spent extra time walking with him and making sure he went potty. Absolutely excellent service, highly recommend to anyone, and will use her anytime I go out of town. Thank you so much!! Melanie is amazing! She has been so accommodating while we set up drop in visits throughout the week & as she becomes our regular dog care taker. I have worked with all types and personalities of dogs. It's good to be given information on what their lines and dislikes are, what behaviors the owners are working on (positive and negative) so that I can also work on strategies for positive reinforcement. I also like to know if there are challenges I should be on the look out for, so that I can redirect in a situation if necessary.
A typical day
I love to walk around the neighborhood, just letting dogs sniff through their world. I love the dog park, watch dogs socialize. I love creating new experiences for dogs to use their noses, like making treat puzzles out of everyday objects. I love working on new tricks and rewarding and reinforcing good behavior.

Availability
I currently volunteer 2 mornings a week (one day at PAWS animal shelter, one day holding babies in the NICU). My children are older now, so I have lots of free time and love to give. Spending time with animals (and children) feeds my soul.
