Dog hugs are the best hugs!

Pet care experience

Hi! Thanks for stopping by. A note on my availability and rates: this is really case-by-case. I have a flexible part time job and am normally out of town a few days per month for medical treatments. Please contact me if you have a furry friend you'd like me to care for and we can go from there. About me: I have had many dog-friends since childhood and growing up often took care of neighbor's pets when they were out of town - mostly dogs, cats, fish, plants, (and babysitting). My longest gig was 3 months pet/house sitting a 13 year old lab (January 2018- beginning of April 2018). I worked in a vet clinic kennels for 3 years as a teenager as well. I have recently relocated to Ellensburg to be with my parents and our 14 year old Jack Russel Terrier, "Rocky". He's had some health problems and requires a lot of extra care and patience. (Update: Rocky has moved on. RIP little buddy!) When he and our other JRT (who lived to the ripe age of 17) were young, I learned how much play time and walks/running/hunting activities these dogs need to be happy. It is a blessing to me to be a part of their lives and have them as a part of mine, witness their silly antics, and share their smiles and company.

Mela is a sweet caring person that loves taking care of all animals! She has a tender heart that swells with joy when she is around dogs!

I have an older lab that requires a lot of attention and through work I wasn’t able to be around much. Mela was priceless in watching over him, taking him out for exercise and feeding him. She went beyond that with the care she showed him to the point where I could see how happy Soul was to see her and be around her over a few month period. She truly cares about what she does and I’m very grateful for the time she spent with him.

I have known Mela for over a year and have observed her excellent dogsitting skills first-hand. She is a reliable, passionate and kind individual, and an excellent choice for a dogsitter. As a rover dogsitter myself, I know what traits are desireable in a responsible companion for your fur baby. She is a great choice, and you won’t be disappointed!

Information Mela L. would like to know about your pet

I always like to know the pet's routine, training/manners/discipline/tricks and the amount and type of play/exercise they are used to, as well as their social habits. Some dogs love to play, others don't really understand fetch/tug o war, etc., but they enjoy long walks or hikes. Some dogs are anxious and prefer to ride in the car on errands than be left at home for a couple hours. Some get anxious in the car. Some dogs can be off leash and will be generally obedient. Some dogs should never be off leash. All good things to know. I don't necessarily have a breed preference, just more experience with certain breeds: Jack russels (of course), rottweilers, pitbulls, Australian shepherds ♡, labs/retrievers. I do prefer dogs that are not aggressive towards other dogs or people, regardless of size. I don't feel comfortable handling dogs that must be in a muzzle. Note about administering injected medications: I have done some of this before many years ago, the type that just gets injected under the skin, so if I am shown the correct way and explained the timing and how the drug works (with their diet, activities, sleep etc.), i would be comfortable. I would not be comfortable with injections where you need to find a vein etc. I have not had proper training for that. So, This is a case by case basis. I've administered oral pills, dewormer, topical sprays, ointments, and the Advantage brand flea/tick stuff. I've bathed a lot of dogs as well.

A typical day

I like hiking and have a discover pass and a honda cr-v, so I'd love to take your furry friend adventuring if I am sitting for overnight, or if we discuss a longer walk than 30 minutes. Note on availability and activities: If I am house sitting I won't be around 24/7, most likely just evening to morning time. I can guarantee to provide company and security and necessary feeding/care/walk/routine for evening and a long morning on work days.
