Pet care experience
I’ve cared for dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, fish - pretty much every animal since before I could talk. I love all animals but due to my travel schedule, I unfortunately cannot have any of my own. However, I’m eager to love and care for any animal as often as I can - always the first to volunteer to help out neighbors, friends and also the local humane society/shelter. Whatever your pet needs I happy to oblige! Your dog loves to go on runs? Great, I’m a runner. Your cat just needs someone around to ease their anxiety? Perfect, I’ll gladly give them all the attention they need. You have a large dog who loves to go to doggy daycare? I have an SUV so they’ll have a comfortable ride. Your pet needs their 12hr diabetes shots on a strict schedule? I owned a cat who needed the same, so I’m very familiar with administering medications to animals as well. Animals have always been a big part of my life and though I don’t have any to call my own right now, I’m hoping to fill that void by pet sitting those in need 😊.

Mel was a very responsive and respectful care taker for our two cats. She was kind enough to come by our apartment for an orientation and key pick up/drop off (given we live close by). I would recommend Mel to anyone looking for a quality pet sitter.

We can’t say enough good things about Mel! We could tell by the photo/video updates that our pup was so happy to be with her. We appreciated how kind and communicative she was, as we were nervous to leave him over the holiday. Also, it was really nice to come back home from a busy trip to the apartment just as we left it. We are looking forward to working with her in the future!
Mel has been awesome! She was so attentive to my pup for the week, asked a lot of questions about his comfort and personality, which makes for a great stay. I got daily videos and pictures, he had the best time with Mel!

I always respect my clients (and the animals) wishes when caring for pets. If preferred to pet sit in their home or mine, I always abide by their schedule, rules, and routine. Above all, I will respect the animal and their needs, always allowing the animal to warm up to me and feel comfortable. If the dog/cat is used to sleeping in the bed with their owner, I’m happy to continue that! (My family dog back in Wisconsin sleeps with me every night when I visit). If preferred to crate at night or when I leave the home I can do so as well - though I do not own a crate so I will need to utilize the owners crate. I live in an condo complex right off the lady bird lake path and next to a small dog park. If your dog is allowed to be off leash, I will take them to the park each day to socialize as well as take them on a walk around the lake (on leash).

Information Mel B. would like to know about your pet
I'd like to know whether the dog is dog aggressive, people aggressive, the commands the dog follows, how well he/she walks on a lease, etc. (similar requests for cats!) No breed preferences here :). I'd also like to know if there are any medications, special treatments, eating schedule/regime etc.. I want to be sure the pet has consistency while their owner is away.
A typical day
I live right on the Lady Bird Lake path and I love to be outside, so if the dog is able, I will take them on daily walks around the lake. There is also a small dog park outside of my building (which is not fenced in) - but if your dog is good with commands off leash we can head there as well! Otherwise I'm only a 3 minute drive to the closest fenced in dog park for all the playtime. I love any affectionate animal so evening and daytime work break snuggles are my favorite. But I will never force affection, always allowing the pet to come to me.

Availability
I currently work remotely so my schedule is very flexible, all I need is my laptop and I can work from wherever! I can adjust my own calendar and usually pick my travel dates for work. Regardless, if I’m in town, I’m very flexible to pet sit overnight, bring your pet to me or stop by when needed. As I do not go into an office, your pet will have my company for the vast majority of each day if requested.
