Animal Shelter Volunteer & Fosterer

Pet care experience

I have taken care of many pets in my life. I took care of my family dogs for 15 beautiful years, from childhood into adulthood. Their passing was difficult for me, so I connected with the Helen Woodward Animal Center where I have been a volunteer for nearly two years socializing dogs, walking dogs, cleaning kennels, laundry, and feeding. I volunteer every week for 3 hours. I have recently started fostering for this shelter, and have saved 4 amazing puppies (~15 weeks; 2 separate foster assignments). My rates are low as (1) I am new to Rover and (2) the animal care required (walks, playing, feeding, socializing etc) is something I already do for free. Although I am new to Rover I can assure you I am not new to pet care.

Megan is a very sweet person. She took care of our dog Alice for nearly a week. She updated us with photos and what Alice was up to. Took her for long walks and watched movie together. Alice seemed happy. She kept in touch with us during our vacation and was more of a friend than someone who took care of our dog. Will definitely leave our dog with her again in our future trips. Thanks Megan!

Meg was so fantastic with our dog! She sent daily updates and it was so wonderful to know that our dog was being taken care of by Meg while we were on vacation. Thank you so much Meg and would love for her to watch our dog again!!

Meg's dog watching skills were top notch. She was quick to response and accommodate us on a short notice. With this being the second time leaving Mars with anyone besides family, I was nervous but Meg confidently assured me he'd be fine. And indeed upon picking him up, he was more than just okay. Meg stated in touch, providing updates and photos of Mars on walks, his favorite daytime activity. We were blessed to have found Meg and without a doubt, Meg will be our go to for future dog sitting needs.

Meg was absolutely wonderful with my two dogs on our brief stop in San Diego. We picked them up each day happy they were taken well care of.

Note that I do live with my boyfriend so if your dog is timid with males please let me know. I have a bunch of supplies (potty pads, toys, towels, even a little sweater) from my fostering experience in my home. I can easily fence off areas of the house with an xPen, but there are really no dangers inside. Outside the dog would be monitored at all times. Even if you indicate your dog is ok off leash, I still will want to keep your pup on leash at all times when outside.

Information Meg R. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences. I would need to know if your dog is reactive during walks. I’m relatively small and physically incapable of restraint and/or picking up large dogs.

A typical day

Walk in neighborhood (hilly) or walk around lake (less hills, longer). Play with toys, games, sleep! Watch tv at night together. Can take for many short walks or one big walk.

Services

Doggy Day Care

0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
No females in heat

Availability

I work from home so I have plenty of time to care for pets. I can make most times work (7AM-10PM or overnight). My only caveat is sometimes I spend some days with my parents up North, so I am not always in San Diego. I also am occasionally asked to travel for work. Please reach out within a month of your requested date so I can have the best idea of my schedule.
