I know that every dog is an individual. Breeds can give us some information about a dog by letting us know a bit about why it was originally bred. However, I have seen Border Collies that acted more lazy lap dogs and Rat Terriers that have had no interest in hunting down rats. So I say to each their own. I like to know the dog's routine. When do they eat, go out, sleep etc and if they are on any medications. One of the ways to make your dog have the most enjoyable time without you is to keep their basic routine the same. This helps them know you didn't abandon them and takes a lot of pressure off the animal.

I like to do activities that are right for the dog. Although I love flyball, my dog Nila quickly let me know that it just wasn't her thing. So instead she is my cuddly guard dog that hangs out at the house and keeps the other dogs entertained and inline. Dogs are just like people and each one is different. Our activities together could be hanging out in front of the TV, playing fetch, or going for a stroll.
