5+ years in the animal care field!

Pet care experience

I have worked with and around animals for 5+ years now and LOVE it! I graduated from Texas Tech in 2022 with a bachelors degree in Animal Science with a concentration in companion animals. I currently work as a receptionist at a vet’s office in Arlington but before that, I worked as a vet technician for 4 years at a different clinic. My degree was mainly focused on animal behavior and training, so I have a good knowledge base on best practices when it comes to dog training and behavioral issues. When I was in school, while working as a vet tech, I pet sat for neighbors, friends, and clients, so I am very confident with all kinds of breeds, taking care of the elderly kiddos, and administering any medications including any injections if needed. I am also comfortable with giving baths and nail trims if needed, and can also take your baby out on a walk or throw the ball in the backyard to get some exercise! My family has always had animals in our home since I was a kid from hamsters and guinea pigs to dogs and cats. I LOVE all animals and your pet will LOVE me! I am smart, hard working, and responsible. I can't imagine not having my dogs in my life because they just bring you so much happiness to your soul. I treat my dogs as members of my family so I would definitely treat yours the same! What you can expect from me is to be on time to every visit, make sure they go to the bathroom several times a day, and make sure they have plenty of food and water. I can spend time and play with your pets or just relax and give them affection depending on what they are needing while I am with them! A little about my own dogs: I have two dogs of my own. One is a yellow Labrador Retriever named Panda and the other is a shih-tzu mix named Maggie! Panda was supposed to go on to be a service dog for someone else through a non-profit service dog organization called Canine Companions. She was ultimately released from professional training because she had too much “prey drive” and couldn’t focus on her handler in the presence of cats, birds, and squirrels, etc. I was her puppy raiser, and raised her from the time she was 8 weeks old to about a year and a half of age. After she was released from professional training, I had the opportunity to adopt her back! Maggie was rescued as a stray on the streets of Lubbock, TX, while I was still going to school. She did not have a ID chip and I could not locate anyone looking for her, so I decided to keep her. You can see both of my babies in my profile pic! Let me know how I can help you with your babies and we will go from there!

We absolutely LOVED Mckenzie, and clearly so did our babies. She updated us with pictures and they're feedings and bathroom breaks. We did warn her about walking them, but she took the risk and she updated us on that as well 🙂. She will be our go to girl. I can't thank her enough 💖

I only offer drop-in visits in the client’s home (no overnight stays) because I live in an apartment and have two dogs of my own. During my drop-in visits, I typically stay for at least 30 minutes. I typically come over and let them outside to go potty first, then play or throw the ball for them a few times and give them some affection, then come back inside to make sure they have food and water and anything else they might need. If you would like to schedule a visit for longer than 30 minutes, just let me know and we can make it happen!

Information Mckenzie R. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special needs or behaviors that I need to watch out for. I would also prefer to know the name of their vet and an additional emergency contact in case I am unable to reach you.

A typical day

We will go on walks at the request of the owner, we will play together and have a good time, or just sit and relax with them and give them all the attention and affection that they want depending on what their needs are.

I am currently working full time at a vet’s office but I can be flexible depending on your pets needs and what time of day you are needing a visit! Some days I work from 6:45am-7pm with a 2 hour lunch break. Some days, I work from 6:45am-2pm with no lunch break. And other days, I work from 12pm-7pm. I aways have Saturday afternoons and Sundays free. On the days I have to work from 6:45am-7pm, I can, and have in the past for other clients, made visits as early as 5:30am before I have to go to work. And in the evenings, the soonest I’d be able to make a visit is around 7:30 or 8pm. I can also make an extra visit in the middle of the day during my lunch break on the days I work all day. Or on the days I work a half day, I can make an extra visit before I go into work, or after I get off of work. I can work around my work schedule as best I can to fit your needs! But I understand some pets need more strict schedules than others. If that’s the case, just let me know! And we can try to work out a schedule that fits your needs!
