Pet care experience
I have always had a passion for animals. I had several family dogs growing up that taught me the responsibility of caring for a dog. In 2016 I adopted a special needs dog from foster care. Although challenging at times, providing a safe home where he is healthy and happy has been one of the most rewarding things I have done. In 2020, I adopted a Great Dane puppy. In addition to the normal puppy requirements, Danes also have special diet and exercise requirements in order to prevent bloating. Milly, the Dane, and I have completed two training courses and I am very proud to have a highly obedient companion. Milly does everything with me. I have also studied animal behavior in college. I worked as a lab manager in two animal behavioral labs, and am a published author in the field. I am currently working at an animal facility at The University of Tennessee providing care for research animals. I frequently care for my friends and neighbors animals, including dogs, cats, and reptiles.
Reviews
Matthew did a great job. Came home to happy pups!
Matthew did a great job watching Claire. Great communication before and during his visit.
Matt did a great job. Got pictures of pups having a good time and he checked in often with updates. Came home to happy pups watching animal videos. He is very conscientious.
Matthew was great with our 3 dogs while we were overseas. He gave regular updates and we came back to happy dogs.

Safety, trust & environment
My experience with animals both at home and in the laboratory setting has given me the skills to accommodate even the neediest of pets. My animals are treated like family and yours would receive the same under my care.
Information Matthew J. would like to know about your pet
I currently have one older special needs dog and one younger, high energy dog. Their needs are very different, but it is very rewarding seeing them thrive under my care. I am experienced with administering medicines, specialized training, and adaptive equipment.
A typical day
I am constantly trying to find new ways to keep my animals entertained and mentally stimulated. My Great Dane is very high energy and very smart, so she requires a lot of stimulation. We go on at least one walk a day, do daily training, and we have many toys/puzzles to keep her occupied in the home.
