I’ve lived with animals all my life

Pet care experience

I’ve lived with animals all my life. I love them and they love me too. I’ll be friends with your animals within minutes. We will be pals who enjoy our time together walking, playing and bonding. I promise to take good care of your furry family members. I currently live with two dogs, one 13 year old golden retriever and an 8 year old mix. I also live with two 9 year old sister cats. In the past I have watched pets of all ages and breeds for friends and family. With their encouragement I have decided to expand my pet sitting business to earn extra money while finishing up school. I will graduate next year with my cyber security degree and hope to work for the government.

This experience was our first time using Rover.com. We booked Matt for both of our vacations, 3 weeks apart, and each 2 weeks. Unfortunately, our experience with Matt was not the best. First, I had left flea treatment (out of the packaging, ready to go, one for each dog) and pig ears on the stove when I left. I did not leave a note about the pig ears or the flea treatment, thinking the intention for each was self-evident. When I returned, the pig ears and the two flea treatments were on the counter to the left of the stove. Our home is now infested with fleas. Had I been presented with the same scenario, I would have, at least, had the common sense to reach out to the owners to ask his intentions with the flea application. Second, our 5 month old puppy had a raging ear infection upon our return; her ears were wet and STUNK to high heaven, and she kept shaking her head. All obvious signs of an infection. Third, the dog bed in her sleeping crate was torn to bits, and this state was how I found it. Fourth, when my husband texted to see how the dogs were doing, the response was, "The f*cking dog. She peed twice inside, and she was just outside." Obviously, that response was not intended for my husband. Fifth, I completed the house information website the day prior to leaving, and I shared it with Matt via google so he could read it before coming over (internet key, house quirks, tv, etc.) in case he had any questions. Hours after his arrival, while I was en route to vacation, he texted me to ask for the internet key. I told him it was on the website I shared the day prior. Then he tells me that I had shared with him the wrong thing. So obviously he never looked at my information sheet prior to arrival. Upon leaving for vacation, our house, except for the kitchen and the guest room was a disaster. I can completely understand how no one would ever want to set foot in our house again...and I can understand how someone might want to cry "uncle" had he never faced off with a puppy before. However, it was inexcusable and unprofessional for Matt to bail 10 days before our second vacation (11 days after the end of our first vacation). Even worse, he bailed by email. I purposely did not respond to the cancellation email because I was so disgusted. He never called to make sure I got his email. His excuse was the processing of his new job; however, this particular job was a co-op, attuned to the school year. Therefore, he should have known that there was a possibility--if all went well--that he would need to begin work some time during our second vacation, and he never should have taken the booking. In fact, I remember specifically asking the question about whether completion of processing could affect our booking, and he said, "This IS my job right now." Given all that had happened (or not happened) in the first booking, it is clear, in hindsight, that I should have immediately canceled the second reservation, myself, rather than trying to help out a college student by keeping the second reservation and educating him how to do better next time.

Matt has watched my dog on many occasions and is very reliable! He has also spent many nights with my dog, and gave my large boxer the care needed. Matt has always had dogs and cats of his own, so he is experienced and very caring. I would definitely refer Matt to my friends and neighbors as a wonderful caregiver!

Matt is an excellent pet sitter. He is reliable and fun. My animals love him and listen to him with no issues. My dogs love it when he shows up to care for them.
