14 Year Dog Owner

Pet care experience

I have 20+ years of taking care of dogs. I had a labrador from a 8 week old puppy to 12 years old with health issues; he passed in January of 2016. I have dog sat for several people and dogs of all sizes and ages. Please read my tips and FAQs below to make sure your dog's stay is great. I have a very detailed list of steps below I ask you please read so we can be sure your dog has a great stay. :) PLEASE READ: I currently have a 1 year old high energy awesome dog who is great, but as such I can't have other dogs at my home as he is very very high energy and I don't know how he would be with other dogs, as such I am only offering in home visits and dog walking visits at this time (not dog boarding at my home). With each in home visit for 30 minutes, I can do things according to your instructions such as let your dogs out for potty breaks, refill water, feed them, let them out of kennels to walk around (if they are kenneled) or take them for a walk. (Note: Max of 2 dogs for a walk if they are large dogs). To request a in home visit or dog walk, please send me a message with the crossroads of where your home is and what services you would all like me to do for your dog(s) and the time(s) and days and about your dogs. If that works for my schedule we will then do a meet and greet at your home so I can meet your dogs and make sure they like me and it will be a good arrangement for them. It may scare your dogs for me to do a in home visit if they have not first met me with you at home, so we need to do a in home meet and greet prior to the booking.

Matt did a great job. He met us and our dogs prior to the booking. He did what he said he would do on time. He enabled us to be away for a funeral, with the peace of mind that our pets were well-tended.

Mali had a wonderful stay with Matt. He took her for walks, which she really loves, and hung out with her. She was very happy when we got home. Matt also sent us pics every day so that we could see that Mali was doing fine. The daily pics were very reassuring to us. We will definitely book with Matt again!

Nelson had a great time with Matt. Appreciated the photo updates and attention to details to make sure Nelson's stay was without any problems or issues. I will bring Nelson back again the next time I am out of town.

PLEASE READ: I currently have a 1 year old high energy awesome dog who is great, but as such I can't have other dogs at my home as he is very very high energy and I don't know how he would be with other dogs, as such I am only offering in home visits and dog walking visits at this time (not dog boarding at my home). FAQs and Tips to make your dog(s) stay great: Required Items w/ Your Dog(s): 1) Kennel for each dog I aim to keep kennel time to a minimum, but if I need to step out and for your dogs to sleep in a Kennel for each dog is required. Also, please bring their towels, blankets, beds etc they sleep in. 2) Meet and Greet I need to meet your dog(s) prior to the stay if you are not a repeat customer, just to be sure they feel safe and comfortable around me, since I will be a new person to them so they don't freak out or get scared. 3) Their Dog food and Treats Please include the cup you use to measure how much they get or put each meal in a ziplock bag so I know how much food to give them. Please write on a sheet of paper when to feed them and how much. Please write the color or size of your dog(s) with their names on the sheet (if you have more than one dog) so I am sure to make sure the right dog gets the right food. If they need any medicine please include when to give it to them and how many pills, etc. Please make it very clear so I can be sure to feed them correctly. I am not able to give them shots, if your dog needs shots during their stay I can not accept the booking. 4) Water (If special water) I have city of Lenexa water I can give your dogs, but if you do not live in Lenexa your water may be different. Some guests bring bottles of the water they use or bottled water, etc, just so the water is not a change for the dogs. Others have been fine with the city of Lenexa water. I drink it and my dogs have and it has been fine, but if you want special water for your dogs please bring it. If this is your dog's first stay away from you, I would bring your own water if they are older or if they have health issues. A change in water may cause your dog to throw up if they have health issues. I have never seen it happen with my water in Lenexa, but I have friends who have said water changes made their dog(s) throw up. Just a FYI. 5) No aggressive dogs. I do not want to be bit or to have to worry about them attacking other dogs if we go on a walk. I do try to take the dogs on a walk so they do not have so much energy during the day. If you suspect your dog could bite someone please book with someone else. I have never had a dog bite anyone and the dogs I have had have been super friendly. I just want to be sure your dog has the best stay possible, and if they are aggressive I am not trained to take care of them. 6) Dog toys. Please bring treats and dog toys for your dogs. So they can have something to chew on as this seems to help them being in a new home. Also treats really help your dog have a better stay. I can give them at the interval or number you want, a few or moderate, etc, but they really do help your dog have a better stay and to feel better. 7) Rabies Shot / Flea Tick Treatment Proof Please send a photo of the rabies paper form shot they have had in the last 12 months and of the tick and flea treatment you use on them, as I do not want to have any trouble with ticks or fleas. The city of Lenexa requires that the dogs have their rabies shot, so I do need to have that copy too. 8) Drop off and pick up times. Drop off time: after 8 am Pick up time: by 11 am the next day. EXCEPTIONS: If you are booking 2+ nights the pick up time can be a little later, but if it is going to be 9 or 10pm the next day and you are dropping your dog(s) off at 8 am please make the booking for 2+ nights as your dog(s) say will be past 24 hours. 9) Trial Stay To Start For a first stay I aim to keep the stays no more than 2-3 days simply so your dog(s) can adjust to me and then be back to you prior to any long stays. That way it is easier on your dog(s) than to be dropped off and not see you for over a week later. I have not had any dog(s) that didn't have a fun time with me, but I want to be sure your dog is going to be ok with me on a short stay before any stay over a week. I have had requests to dog sit on a regular basis for months, but I will need to go on a week by week basis. I can not commit to months at a time. I am happy to try to sit your dog each week, but it has to be a week by week basis. It will be good to have a few regular sitters you use if you need a sitter for an ongoing basis. 10) Extended Stays (3+ Nights) As noted above, I do prefer to do a shorter stay under 3 nights for your dog(s) first stay with me just to be sure they do well. The longest I have dog sat is for 2 weeks (although I did take care of a friend's dog for over a year once). I have done a few 8-10 day stays as well for clients. A extended stay is harder for dog(s) if they have not stayed with me before and or if they have not stayed with someone they do not know. While the dog(s) do ok, I have noticed at around 7-8 days dogs if they have never been away from their owners can start to get to missing their family a lot! If they are more familiar with me from a short say of a few days first, it really will help them to do better for extended stays. I can do the longer stays, I just wanted to share a tip for you for your dog(s) so they can have the best stay possible. I have never had to cancel a booking, as I do all I can to make sure it will be a good experience up front and to be sure it will work for your dog. New sitters who do not ask these questions may not have had the experience yet to know the situations that can develop. I love dogs and do all I can to make their stay great, the questions and requirements I have are to make sure that your dog has a good and safe stay. I know it can be a bit much, but I want to be sure your dog has a good stay.
