This isn't a job it's a love

Pet care experience

I absolutely love pets of all kinds!! I have been named the animal whisper by my fellow friend, colleague, neighbors, ect. I get called in with delicate situations such as rescue pups who do not warm up easily to others, hissing cats, or birds who are picky about strangers, and have had great success with caring for them and building relationships. Most of the pets I sit for have been rescued and are shy/timid, health issues, or behavioral issues, I am the only regular pet sitter that people trust and are pleased at how well the animals and I can respect each other so I can care for them properly. I go up and beyond with pets, making sure I spend enough time with them and that all of their needs are met. Having owners away is hard on our pets and I am here to ease the pets anxiety and the owners. I have been pet sitting regularly for about 5 years now and this is my passion. I absolutely love animals and have pet sit many different types of pets not just dogs. I also have worked at the Henry Doorlwy Zoo for a number of years and have background knowledge of all types. I promise I do everything to make you and your pet feel comfortable and cared for.

When one of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes I was very concerned about leaving to go out of town. This cat is very shy, he hides when anyone is over (even people he's know for his entire life) and will only come out for me. I had spoken to my vet about boarding him when I was out of town but that is very stressful for him as well as his brother who is very lost and anxious if they are not in the same living space. We discovered this when his brother was hospitalized for a few days upon the diabetes diagnosis. I considered boarding both of them but was concerned about the stress it would cause them being out of their environments. Keeping them at home with someone to come over to administer the insulin shots was the best option but with my cat being so shy and easily stressed I was concerned how that would go. I voiced my concerns to Marykate and she helped us come up with a game plan far in advance of my planned trip to help my cat become familiar with her before I left. With Marykate's patience, understanding of animals and gentle nature she won over my shy cat! To be honest, this is something that I was skeptical of actually happening. She truly has a way with animals and genuinely understands them! By the time I left for my trip my shy diabetic cat was happy to see her when she came over and allowed her to give him his shots twice a day! While I was gone she sent me constant updates on my cats and how things were going. It is SUCH a relief to know that I can rely on Marykate the cat charmer to look after my kitties if I go out of town. If you are looking for a responsible understanding person to watch your pets she is the perfect person for you and your fur babies! Even fur babies with special needs such as mine!!

I can't have animals in my home due to my own 4 cats that are rescues and have special needs, but I can stay in homes, visit homes as much as needed, walk dogs regularly or take them to dog parks, I am available for animal play dates, basically anything that doesn't involve boarding pets at my home unwell they are amphibians.

Information Marykate Y. would like to know about your pet

It is important to know and understand the pets personality prior to any visitor. Are they shy, timid, overly friendly, talkative (barking, meowing, ect) is their anything that sets off the animal? For example jingling keys could over excite a dog thinking it is going for a car ride or vacuuming could become a game in itself. Any past triggers such as abuse of any kind and any and all diet restrictions.

A typical day

I when I first am getting to know the pup I never stray too far from home when taking dogs for outings or walks. I have found this could make the dog uncomfortable, shy, or aggressive. They will not be trusting of new people in unfamiliar areas. For your more adventurous dogs they could see this as an advantage to take control of a new situation. Breaking off leash, being unfriendly to other dogs or people, not following commands, and if ducks/geese are around could promt for a messy time. Playing with their favorite toy is the first start especially if trust is needed to be built. In the past I found it successful to bring my own toy for the dogs this way they familirize the toy with my personal sent and can become more trusting, playful, and have a new toy! If I have been working with a dog for more than a few months I take dogs for car rides, the south omaha trail is never packed and hardly any other animals on it. The aksarben trail is long and nice. I try to stay away from dog parks as I am weary of other dogs and wouldn't want any instances.

I currently work full time at a very flexible office job. I am able to come and go often. I am working on becoming a full time pet professional as well and hope my transition will come smooth and swiftly. I also care for the office pets we have and do enjoy that. Ultimately animals are my passion and will strive to be with me as much as possible.
