Great dog lover for your sweet pet!

Pet care experience

Hi! I am Mary and I live in the very dog-friendly and walkable neighborhood of Shirlington. I work at the animal shelter here in Arlington and am very experienced caring for a variety of animals. While I am employed full-time at the shelter, I work primarily from home and can give your dog all the walks, love and attention they want throughout the day! I had my own rescue dog, KC, for nearly 15 years until I sadly had to say goodbye to her in May 2020. I have fostered several dogs from the shelter, but would love to have the company of other dogs in the house while I am not fostering. I have a small, fenced-in patio area where your dog can lounge with me during the day when the weather is appropriate. I also love to go on walks along the beautiful walking trails in my neighborhood. I am happy to take your dog for as many long or short walks as you would like during the day. I have worked for a couple of different dog-walking companies in the Arlington area. And, if your dog enjoys the dog park, I am just a 5 minute walk from the Shirlington Dog Park and can take your dog there on excursions during their stay. I will ONLY take your dog to the park with your explicit consent. I have worked with dogs for several years learning about behavior and training and can provide lots of fun enrichment activities for your dog. Please note: While I do not make it a regular practice to host more than one dog at a time, to accommodate some requests, your dog's visit may overlap with another friendly dog's stay. I will limit this overlap to a few hours most times, and from time to time, I may host two dogs for one overnight. I will always notify you of this if it will affect your booking! Bottom line is that I love dogs and would absolutely love to have your precious pet come and visit us! About this sitter/walker: Absolute dog lover! Can't wait to care for your precious pet while you are away! Why I love dog sitting and walking I have had dogs my entire life! It just doesn't feel right unless I have a dog in the house and to keep me company on my daily walks. I grew up primarily with Brittany Spaniels but once I got my own dog it was very important to me to rescue a dog. My last dog, KC, was a Vizsla mix I got from a great local rescue and she was the best dog I could have asked for!

Our pup had a great stay with Mary! I think she was even sad to leave :). Really appreciated all of the updates and knowing our pup was taken care of so well. It was super helpful that Mary had a crate and other items ready to use, so less to pack. She was also very flexible about our drop off & pick up times

Mary always takes such good care of our 4-year-old Golden. Autumn has stayed with Mary on multiple occasions at this point and is always happy and healthy when we pick her up! This level of peace of mind is priceless!

Mary was fantastic. From our initial meeting through all correspondence and our dog's stay, she was professional and kind. Although we had never done a meet and greet before, I appreciated that Mary wanted to make sure it was a good fit for her and for us. She kept us updated while we were away and Cash seemed to have a great time. We definitely recommend her and plan to use her again in the future!

Information Mary L. would like to know about your pet

I am comfortable with all breeds, but would like to know about your dog's personality and routine before they visit. This way I can be sure I am providing the kind of care and schedule they are used to at home!

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks: I walk a lot in our neighborhood - there are so many walking trails around me and the Shirlington Dog Park is a short walk from my house. I only take visiting dogs to the dog park with the owner's explicit consent. Your dog's sleeping arrangement My last dog, KC, slept on the bed with me and I am comfortable with visiting dogs sleeping on the bed as well. I also have two additional dog beds that would be options for your dog. They would absolutely sleep in the bedroom with us unless you have other specifications. I do also have a large wire dog crate already set up in my living room if you would like your dog to be crated at any time during their stay. Time I'll spend with your dog: I work primarily from home and on the two days a week I am in the shelter, I am only out of the house a few hours. So I will be home most days with your dog. I take breaks throughout the day for short and long walks, lounging on the patio, enrichment opportunities and play time.
