Pet care experience
Hello, I'm Mars! I've spent just about my entire life with dogs, both with my own and while entertaining and caring for neighborhood pets. Still, I have a passion for all animals in general. Growing up, I didn't have a cat, but I befriended pretty much every outdoor cat on my street, and I hope to get one of my own eventually. I have experience overnighting with dogs and cats. I have even housesat at a household with 20+ parrots and five dogs for extended periods on many different occasions. It's safe to say I'm pretty prepared for any amount of chaos any pet may have to offer. I'm well equipped to handle all sorts of different personalities in pets and adapt to any situation. Before starting pet sitting and dog walking on this site, I worked as a nanny for most of my adult life. I've always enjoyed caretaking and really enjoyed working with kids. I chose to start using Rover to give me greater flexibility with my other passions— photography and illustration. Working on this site gives me the chance to have an income doing something I love while having the time to work doing what else I love! My love of photography also comes in handy since I often like to do small photoshoots with pets staying overnight at my home. I like giving clients a little extra something with their stay— for no additional cost, of course. I currently live in a house with a big fenced-in yard and multiple great parks and walking paths nearby. There's a lot of room inside and out in the back for pets to explore. Currently, I'm not living with a dog, cat, or any children. I do, however, live with my bird, Baby. She's a 35-40 year old Citron Cockatoo who loves other pets as much as I do. She loves to talk to and show off to both dogs and cats, and she'll often call to the dogs to "come here!" or "get up here!" while posing for them. Baby's wings are half of the wingspan they are supposed to be, so she cannot fly and has no way of getting near any cats or dogs staying in the house. I always make sure she's on a perch that's out of reach, and I keep a very close eye if she's in the same room as any pets staying over. Baby loves coming outside on long walks with the dogs, and that's about as close as they get to each other. Most dogs and cats who meet Baby are a little curious about her at first and usually get used to her pretty quickly. Occasionally, though, dogs will get a little too excited and bark at her, or cats may get overly focused on her. If the pets staying over are distressed by Baby in any way or can't get used to her, they'll be kept separate for the duration of their stay. Baby has her cage in a separate bedroom, so if she needs to be out of sight, she can be. I offer boarding, house sitting, drop-in visits, doggy daycare, and dog walking. I love interacting with people's pets in pretty much any and every way. It's an honor to be trusted with someone's pets, and it's something I deeply enjoy. I don't have many reviews yet, but don't let that deter you! I'm new to this site but definitely not new to pet-sitting. I've got the experience and the skills, and I've definitely got the passion.

Once again our pups had a another great stay with Mars, to say they were excited to see him when we dropped them off is an understatement!
Once again, our dogs had another great stay with Mars. It's obvious he has a passion for animals and we appreciate how closely he paid attention to both of our dogs. Its reassuring how comfortable the dogs felt in his home. =)
It was a pleasure working with Mars. He was flexible and accommodating with us as first time Rover users - including chatting with us on the phone, as well as setting up a meet & greet that turned into a 1 day trial run. Our pups warmed up to him quickly and they seemed quite happy when we picked them up. We look forward to working with him more!
This was our first time leaving our Covid puppy with someone besides close family and Mars instantly put us at ease with his kind manner and expert approach. When we came to pick up our dog after a weekend away he was excited to see us, but not stressed at all, and was going back and forth between us and Mars like Mars is now part of the family. We will definitely entrust our dog with Mars next time we’re out of town.

Information Mars B. would like to know about your pet
Besides the obvious, like breed and gender, I would like to know the age, medical history, and typical level of activity they're used to. I want to make sure the dog is not bored but also not overexerted. Favorite treats and favorite toys are also great to know! As well as any relevant training or commands you'd like me to use. For visits and overnight stays, it's very helpful to know what a typical day looks like for you and your dog, so I can do the best to recreate their routine and make the transition as smooth as possible.
A typical day
I like to do a short 30-minute walk in the morning to the nearby high school, then a more extended hour to two-hour walk to the nearby duck pond, and finally another 30-minute walk in the evening. Of course, it all depends on the dog, so the walks' length and difficulty are always primarily based on the dogs' energy. If they need more/longer walks, or fewer/shorter walks in the day, I'm happy to adjust my routes as required. I live right by a great trail that goes from a lovely duck pond all the way to the Pirate Park in Bethany (and even further past that!) I enjoy taking dogs on the path next to the water and usually will sit in the sun for a bit if the weather allows it. I also enjoy running, so if the dog has the energy for more than a walk, I'm pleased to oblige! For the rest of the day, I like to give lots of backyard time for bathroom breaks and play, letting them explore and playing fetch or with any toys provided. If I've done my job right, by the end of the day, hopefully, the dogs will be ready for a bit of relaxation, in which we cuddle up on the couch for some TV (if they're allowed on the couch, of course). As I said before, I like taking the dogs on one more walk before they go down for bed. Then the morning comes, and we start it all over again!
