I grew up in a home where we treat our dogs as family. I've cared for 4 dogs separately in my life time, 3 of which were via my parents home and one of which on my own in my first apartment in Chicago IL. Dogs almost never miss a beat with approaching you with so much love & joy when you come home and so I feel I should only do the same with how I care for them; i.e making sure their dishes are clean that they receive enough walks & play time for the day, that they also receive treats not just for good behavior but just because they're wonderful. My specialty is communicating with him or her of their needs and servicing them to satisfactory.
