I have always owned a dog or cat until just recently. As for my experience honestly, I have no special dog training. I am willing to get training if needed. I am a retired Intensive Care Nurse of 30 years I believe relationships with animals happen organically the animal either like you or don't. Animals are a good judge of character. I love dogs at the end of long day dogs for the most make you feel appreciated they greet your at the door tails wagging excitedly to see you. I don't own an animal now just recently moved to a smaller apartment and getting adjusted and think its unfair to the animal to leave them alone for an extended period of time with no care.
