Dog is dog!! Because... Dog Is Dog!

Pet care experience

I am 36 yrs old Retired Marine, and I have been around dogs all my life. Also My parents basically ran a urban zoo out of our house.. just because. They had 12 snakes (one was 26ft long) Tens of bunnies. From small to large. Hundreds of rats, gerbils, mice. Birds, bearded dragons, tarantulas, cats, ferrets and lots of dogs. I have looked after dogs in the past for friends and family on up through my teens and 20s. With that mentioned, I love dogs. I understand dogs because... Dog is dog! Ill wash em up, feed them, entertain them to the clients preference. If the pup does get dirty and the client wants them cleaned, I request to know how the client wants it done. I don't recomend harsh chemicals or or forgien products. If the clients pet has special medical and nutrional needs I require that the client provide the food and or medication that needs to be administered. Sometimes dogs don't like new things and that's cool. I will use what the client requests, within reason because of allergic reactions and special needs, I will always ask. I will need to know if the pup needs long walks, play time, nap time, chow time or super chill time. Basically what his or her attitude os like. So I can plan for a smoother visit. Ill guard them from harm. I will feed them separate so there is no anxiety to protect or to fight. If the client wants their pup to be separate from others that's fine, I recomend individual feeding anyway. I have exspirence rotating out shy, aggressive and super hyper dogs. I will follow dietary requirements. If its ok, let me spoil them. I don't discriminate, little dog, big dog or pups bring em, I love them all.

I contemplated over writing this review for a few weeks now. Two stars is giving Mark the benefit of the doubt. Our dog Fang stayed with Mark for two weeks and we didn't receive any updates and not one picture during Fang's stay with Mark. We reached out multiple times asking how the stay was going and would get short responses(one sentence). This was very disappointing and frustrating to us because our dog can't talk to us and tell us how his stay is so we could only assume bad things when we don't hear anything. Upon picking Fang up, his crate and coat were very dirty and smelled bad, we had to take him immediately to get a bath afterwards. A dirty dog is fine if our dog was being taken outside to play and have fun but we never received any updates so we don't know why our dog was in such a poor state. Lastly, when we finally returned and picked our Fang up, when Mark said goodbye to Fang his legs started to shake uncontrollably and his tail went in-between his legs. Our dog is a people person and fearless. Our dog doesn't jump or misbehave and is very well trained. This interaction between the two of them frightened me and my husband and ultimately was the deciding factor in writing this review. Mark was very accommodating and flexible with drop off and pick up times and informed us that he was busy and just moved so that could be a reason for the lack of communication but I wish he would have just not agreed to watch Fang then if that was the case. All of these things were major red flags to us. We don't have any kids, our dog was a rescue and is everything to us. We are writing this review because we know if we had known how this was going to be beforehand we would have made different accommodations for Fang. We don't care how much dog boarding costs, as long as there are no doubts our dog is safe and happy. We don't usually use rover, but decided to use it this one time while going home for the holidays and boarding places being closed over Christmas and New Year's. Because of this we sadly are very hesitant to use Rover again.

My dog had a history of getting into fights with another dog he grew up with. Mark gladly took care of him and I had zero issues. Thanks!

Information Mark E. would like to know about your pet

I have no breed preferences. They are all cool to me. I need to know if they have triggers, how aggressive, allergies, special needs though. What they eat, what they don't eat, what the client feeds them baths them with. Do they bark a lot. Are they stubborn on walks or just real nosey.

A typical day

I can take the dog or dogs on a walk around the block or to a park where they are allowed. Activities vary from dog to dog. I can come up with stuff to do all day and more times than not the dog will choose what is or is not fun to do. I can try but my experience is dog does what dog does. If they like to run they will figure out how to do it. If they like to chew then I will get them a bone or a tug rope. Some times they like to play keep away or just bark at everything and anything. Of course I will ask what they typically like to do.
