Experienced Trainer & Fur Mom

Pet care experience

I do offer pick-up for Day Care/Boarding clients who cannot commute for an additional fee! I accept day board, as well as short to longer term boarding clients on a case by case basis. Maybe you need a temporary care situation while moving, or have a month long vacation, or a job related deployment. Please reach out and discuss! Ask about adding a de-shed brush down, nail trim, and a bath and blow-out to your pup’s stay for $25-$75! Your dog’s size and breed will vary the price. **I reserve the right to deny grooming to any severely matted clients, or discontinue the service for aggressive/non-cooperative clients as well.** If you need additional pet care outside of Dogs and Cats, please reach out anyway, and we can tack your care under a different label. (For example, you need equine care, however Rover does not have an equine option). I am extensively experienced with livestock care of all forms. From scales to feathers to fur, I have worked with, owned, trained and fostered a variety of pets. Birds, fish, reptiles, rabbits, rats, and cats and dogs and horses.. none of your pets are too far fetched to be cared for! I got my first “responsible job” at 9 helping to care for foster pets in my aunt’s home to earn my fun-money. I fed their meals, bathed them, walked them, and as I got older and more interested in dogs, I even began to teach them basic tricks and obedience as they prepared for life in new adopted homes. In these years, I was learning how to deal with pets from all sorts of backgrounds, and I was saving for my first dog at the same time. I then began a more serious learning curve of formal volunteer job at 13 the summer before my Freshman year breaking and training horses as well as training the property’s Border Collies to herd other livestock and form their basic obedience manners when not working with livestock. In this job, I also began working with Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, and large-breed Anatolians and Great Pyrenees who taught a small girl how to work with a big dog! This job really kick started my passion for working with dogs, and animals as a whole. I learned a lot about breed diversity and how dogs can be so different from each other with their needs, temperament, and drive. This introduction brought me to study working dogs and their jobs they’re bred for as a whole, thus I found my passion with protection breeds and fell in love with Dobermans which ultimately led to my purchase of my beautiful girl, Eboni who is now 3 years old. On top of beginning my dog experience, I have also been a cat owner. My best pal growing up was a Bengal for 17 wonderful years (he is still alive and well!). I now have 3 fun and quirky black cats in my home. Feline behavior is often overlooked or ignored because we’re so used to learning about dogs and their needs that we don’t realize cats can be the same! Hiring someone who understands how to read your cat, respect and cater to them is highly important, and I strive to offer the highest educated care possible to accommodate both outgoing and social cats down to very nervous and feral cats. Please reach out if you have a cat who struggles with interaction but still needs care. I have worked with dogs from Yorkies to Danes, and German Shepherds to Dachshunds. I have worked with dogs who never knew a stranger to dogs who would rather be left alone. No behavioral background is too big, and I am happy to accommodate whatever needs your dog has, easy or complex when it comes to their temperament and confidence so I can best suit your dog and create a positive experience for them. However, I can only do this for as the owner, you can promise to be thorough and upfront about any behavioral struggles your dog has so I can best accommodate. Additional meet and greets prior to beginning services may be needed to help your dog adjust to my presence. My love for animals is endless and I am always ready to welcome to next animal into my life to love as my own pal so long as they’re under my care. Please reach out to talk more and discuss your pet and see if we would be a fit!

Mariah was great with our puppy! She was very communicative, gave updates, photos, and asked great questions. Our puppy got lots of playtime and was so wore out, she slept at night! We will be asking Mariah to host our puppy again very soon :-)

Information Mariah K. would like to know about your pet

There are several things I will prefer to know about your pet before handling! Here are the main questions. 1. How is your dog’s behavior walking on a leash? (Calm and relaxed or easily excited/a puller, reactive and needs to be walked in a low-traffic area, etc) 2. How does your dog handle coming into contact with other animals? 3. How does your dog handle coming into direct or distanced contact with other people? 4. How does your dog behave when initially meeting a guest? (Are they calm, do they jump with excitement, do they cower and hide?) 5. What tools do you utilize when walking your dog? (Harness, flat collar, slip lid, prong, e-collar, etc) 6. Any quirks your dog has I should know? 7. Does your dog suffer ANY animal species reactivity from small to large? Please specify.

A typical day

I will always be ready for playing fetch until your pooch is tired and ready for the next thing, or shaking a feather for your feline until they’re bored of it. While I personally do not take my dogs to dog parks, I am more than happy to work with you if this is a regular activity for your dog and I have the experience with canine behavior to be able to make a safe call for your pet if I feel other animals at the Dog Park are not creating a safe environment for yours. I enjoy taking dogs to lower populated areas and working on enrichment in other ways. Some dogs find toys more exciting to toss and tug and others would rather sniff out a yummy snack behind a bleacher or in some tall grass with provided treats or kibble. In home, LickiMats and Snuffle Mats are wonderful enrichment! I also utilize many Nina Ottossen Puzzles and other dog enrichment games.

I have a part time job working on a ranch caring for horses and decided I’d love to fill some of my time with others’ pets. What better way to fill my life with more furry friends than being able to also lighten the load for another owner! I came from a full time, 12 day on 2 day off work life of overnights. I understand the struggle of loving your pets and wanting the best for them but not being able to balance it, because you also have to prioritize whatever pays to live. That’s what I’m here for! I am incredibly flexible and happy to accommodate any schedules.
