Pet care experience
I grew up caring for cats, dogs, and chickens. I've been working as a veterinary technician for 5 years and I'm able to perform companion animal CPR. I also help to run a dog and cat rescue, so I have experience caring for newborn puppies, kittens, and elderly animals. Able to administer injectable or oral medications if needed.

Mara took care of our babies Penny and Teddy for a week, they came back so happy, didn’t want to leave her. Honestly I think they are better behaved than before!
Mara is an excellent sitter! She cared for our three elderly pets including complex medication needs. Her skills with animals was clear in how she interacted with the pets and how calm and happy they were when we returned. She communicated well with us throughout her stay. We highly recommend her!
Mara is a true lover and protector of animals! She has watched my cat Fu many times and shows only love and affection. Mara is a current bio major at UConn and devotes time to a local animal rescue. In addition to her studies and non-profit work, Mara works part time as a vet technician. You will not find a more devoted, well qualified person with a big heart for animals.

I'm a part of an animal rescue, and frequently have had to host animals in my home to try and train them or nurse them back to health. I have experience with helping cats and dogs through labor, bottle feeding newborns that lost their mother, administering SQ fluids/insulin/ect., and elderly hospice care.

medical conditions (seizures/CHF/diabetes/ect.), medications, allergies, diet/food restrictions, history of aggression or anxiety (to prepare for or avoid the situation/species/environmental stressors), where they are not allowed to be within the home (bed/couch/basement, ect.), commands they know, leash or harness preferences for walking, and their favorite activities.
A typical day
I always cater my time with a pet according to their needs and preferences. I'm a big fan of doing many of their favorite things when they first meet me. Some dogs love to go swimming, others prefer hiking, some play fetch with their favorite toy, go to the dog park, get a puppiccino from starbucks, or prefer to be left alone to enjoy their comfy couch life. I'm always outdoors so I never run out of new places near Storrs to hike through. My go-to at sunset is horsebarn hill, the view is great and I find that most dogs love to see the cows! Activities or environments that could be new or potentially destress the animal will always be discussed with owners and avoided as necessary.

Availability
My weekly routine in life is built around allotted times dedicated to the joys of working with animals. I'm a full-time biomedical (pre-vet) student, and work as a part-time veterinary technician. My daily routine is submerged in animal care during my classes, at work, or snuggled on the couch with my cat.
