Pet care experience

*Due to work, I am typically only available right now in the evenings after 5pm with the exception of weekends. I can also do 30 minute drop ins near Yorktown Heights between 12 and 1pm. Please send me a message to see my availability more in depth!* Hi, I’m Madison! I’m a pet obsessed girl who would love nothing more than to be surrounded by animals. I’ve grown up with pets my entire life because one of my family members was a vet. I’ve primarily had dogs but also had several cats, Guinea pigs, leopard geckos, and a turtle. I have 3 dogs of my own currently and I also train future guide dogs so I am working with dogs constantly. I’m the happiest when I’m holding a leash with a furry face looking up at me. I have been hanging out in an animal hospital for as long as I can remember and I feel the most comfortable around animals, it comes naturally to me. I’m the first person my family, friends and neighbors call when they need help with their pets (drop in visits, sitting, walking, etc) and I’m always more than happy to do it! I also love training dogs of all kinds, it’s a passion of mine. I can teach basic obedience, tricks, sports like nose work or agility, and simple daily life skills. I incorporate training and reinforce good behavior throughout my visits for each animal I work with. I really love introducing pets to enrichment activities like puzzles, frozen toys, training, sniffy walks, etc to help them live a more fulfilling life and enjoy their visits with me. I enjoy a challenge and getting to know each dog for who they really are, and I look forward to seeing them every time! However I do appreciate honesty, and I ask that each pet owner tells me the truth about how their beloved pets behavior, quirks, etc so that I can be fully prepared. I take safety extremely seriously and I don’t take any risks to compromise the well being of any animal I work with. I do not do off leash walks, dog parks, greetings with strange dogs, or any other activities I believe may endanger the pet. If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m always happy to work with pet owners to try to accommodate special requests (within reason).

Madison was available with only a two hour notice. She was very good with Maggie and gave her a little extra time! I'm grateful that she was able to walk Maggie and will certainly call upon her again when needed.

Madison was an amazing sitter for our dogs for the weekend! They received so much love and attention. Madison kept us updated on how they did while we were away and sent pictures too!

Madison sat with our dog over the weekend. We received a text and photo after each of her visits including a brief summary of how things went. She kindly picked up our mail and returned garbage carts to the side of our house - so some house sitting details as well! Everything went smoothly- will definitely have Madison back again in the future!!

Madison took care of our young lab while we were on vacation for 10 days. She went above and beyond and truly treated our dog like she was her own. We loved reading each report and seeing the pictures. It made missing our dog a little less sad knowing she was having a vacation of her own with Madison. I highly recommend her and look forward to using her in the future!

Safety, trust & environment

**Not currently accepting overnight care** I take safety very seriously both in and out of the house, and I always do a walkthrough of the house (and yard if there is one) before and after each visit to make sure there is nothing dangerous for the animal. I do not take client dogs to dog parks, do off leash walks, greetings with unfamiliar dogs outside of the home, or any other activity that may pose a risk to the animal I am responsible for. For walks I inspect all equipment before using to ensure there is no damage and it is safe for use. I prefer using my own leash, and if a provided harness, collar, etc is not suitable or safe for a walk (ie too big or small, not fitted correctly, damaged, causing obvious fear or discomfort to the dog, etc) I will not use it. All dogs must be up to date on all vaccines with proof, no exceptions. All dogs must have a form of identification as per local laws, as well as a rabies tag or poof of rabies vaccination.

Information Madison M. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special medical or behavioral needs beforehand so I can account for that. I also would like to know if the dog is reactive in any way to any kind of thing (people, dogs, squirrels, cars, etc), what situations they are reactive in (on leash, off leash, etc) and what the reactions look like.. I’m willing to take on reactive dogs however I do not appreciate being surprised. It is crucial that I am prepared in advance so potential situations can be handled accordingly. I will not take aggressive dogs or dogs with a human bite history. I also need to know if the dog has any exercise restrictions like an injury, arthritis, etc, or dietary restrictions, such as an allergy to chicken, a diet to loose weight, grain free, etc. I often bring treats on my visits to reward the pups for good behavior, they are given sparingly but I want to ensure I am following their typical diet. If they have any other issues like eating things off the ground, marking, pulling, escaping from the leash/harness, etc I need to know so I can be prepared. Anything else you would like to tell me is of course welcome, I love learning about the pets I take care of! I will get to know your pet during our meet and greet (which is required) but knowing about their personality, temperament, likes and dislikes, quirks, etc ahead of time can help me to better understand and interact with each pet. If you think your pet would get along with my intact male labrador retriever puppy that’s also great to know so I can bring him along! No intact females will be allowed to interact with him, and he will stay home if you don’t think your pet will do well with him.

A typical day

Walks are typically in the dogs own neighborhood so that they feel comfortable and safe. With owner permission or request and a dog that I feel can handle it, I love going on short hikes in local parks, trails, etc so we can enjoy nature. All dogs I take care of will be on a leash at all times unless they’re in a fenced in, secure area, as per local laws. If we are in a large field or other area to play, the dog will be on a long leash (which I provide) to avoid any accidents while still allowing some degree of freedom. No dogs I take care of are allowed to socialize with other dogs outside of the household. This is also to prevent any accidents from either side, and because I don’t know the health or temperament or other dogs I don’t take care of. With the recent outbreak of a canine respiratory virus, this is even more important. I do not and will not take a client dog to a dog park, however I am more than happy to take them to a regular park or field on a long leash to run around, play fetch, train, etc. I always spend the first few minutes of my sessions greeting the dog and establishing a relationship through pets, play, love, food, etc. Forming a bond with the animals I work with is one of my biggest priorities! (Aside from safety) I will never force an animal to do something they do not want to do. (unless it is a safety concern, in which case I will do whatever I need to do to keep the animal safe)
