Patient, Experienced, Responsible

Pet care experience

I grew up in the suburbs with four dogs, three cats, birds, fish, and a rabbit. We love our little zoo! I have 7+ years of dogsitting experience, volunteer work, one year of vet tech study, and two years of fostering. I’ve administered injections, oral medications, prescription baths/ topicals, and basic wound care. When living in LA, I volunteered with multiple LA county shelters, TNR groups, and fostered kittens. In Indiana, I’ve volunteered with private nonprofits and local rescue groups. I enjoy visiting private rescue groups and learning how they engage the community.

Maddie is a wonderful sitter! I can’t recommend her enough. She took the time to meet me and my pup ahead of time and asked very thoughtful questions about my dog’s care needs. My pup stayed with her while I was out of town for several days, and Maddie couldn’t have made me feel more at ease as she sent me updates throughout my trip. She was very communicative and took such good care of my girl. I came home to a very happy and content pup thanks to Maddie ?

Maddie is incredibly attentive, responsive, and trustworthy. We left our dog with her for a long weekend and didn’t worry about her at all. Maddie organized a meet and greet before the stay and that gave us a chance to meet each other and get questions answered. During dog sitting we got pictures and status updates every day. I would use Maddie as a dog sitter any time!

Maddie was a so fantastic with my dog. My little one has some anxiety and special needs and she was so calm and attentive. So far, Maddie has watched my pup twice. The second time I dropped him off he had not a care in world. Didn’t even look back for me! So I knew he was happy and in great hands. Highly recommend Maddie as a pet sitter!

Maddie was a wonderful dog sitter, really has a way with dogs! She was very communicative, sweet, and patient with our little chihuahua/spaniel mix. Our dog immediately loved her, which was huge for us because he usually hates new people and can be very barky/aggressive/anxious toward them. Maddie sent us several pictures and updates a day, and she was really very welcoming. This was our first Rover experience and we’re so happy we requested Maddie! We would 100% ask her to dog sit for us again in the future. Highly recommend!!

Safety, trust & environment

I prefer to do a meet-and-greet with a new client prior to staying overnight at their home/ hosting. I ask questions on the tour, meet the dog on their territory, and take notes. This also lets me gauge if the job is an aligned fit. For exercise, I prefer to walk around the neighborhood and along the Hudson River parkway. I allow for frequent sniff breaks (unless asked not to for training purposes). I'm familiar with different harness and collar types. I personally prefer martingale collars. I live with one roommate on the first floor, directly across from the park and three minutes from the dog park. Some of our neighbors have small dogs on other floors. I’d let pets sleep on my bed but will discourage couch access. I've also passed the Fear Free Shelter course online (teaching me proper handling techniques and behavior analysis that aims to reduce fear, anxiety, and stress when interacting with animals in a medical or shelter environment).

Information Maddie M. would like to know about your pet

I'd like to be warned of any aggressive behaviors, trigger actions, or habits that a dog may have (chewing, humping, marking territory, not dog-friendly, leash reactive, possessive of toys). If a dog is larger than 40 lbs, then I'd like to be shown that it is leash trained. I also want to know if a dog requires trading when leashing. Do sudden noises/movements affect the dog? Do they have trigger spots on their body (ex: don’t lean over their head, no reaching across, let them initiate touch first)?

A typical day

I prefer the park as opposed to neighborhood sidewalks. We live right next to the Hudson River parkway and dog park. Depending on the dog’s comfort level, I’d love to bring them along for an outdoor meal with friends, play at the dog park, or lounge on a picnic blanket. If the weather is cool enough, we can go for a jog along the Hudson.

I work full-time, M-F near Bryant Park. My job allows me to WFH when needed, too. I’m a morning person and get outside as much as I can to enjoy the weather. If no crate is provided for when I need to run an errand, then pets will be comfortably placed in my bedroom with the door closed until I return. While dogsitting, I do not plan to be gone for more than two hours max.
