Future Vet Student, Loves all Pets

Pet care experience

My name is Maddie and I graduated from UConn in May 2022 studying animal science and pathobiology on a pre-vet track in the honors program. I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian since I was four, and I absolutely love all animals - especially dogs. I will be attending UC Davis for veterinary school starting in August, but I am available from May to the middle of July for pet sitting. Please message me if you have any questions or if you would like to know which days I have more flexible availability! Along with playing a large role in caring for my family dogs since I was 8 as well as a cat, a gerbil, and numerous fish, I have volunteered at dog shelters and obtained hundreds of hours of hands-on dog experience with dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments. I have spent over 200 hours working at a doggie daycare/boarding facility where I handled playgroups of up to 15 dogs at a time. Since I was a teenager, I’ve also done plenty of dog walking and pet sitting of all kinds (dogs, cats, exotics, etc) with a main goal of providing the best care for your pets and keeping their stress low while you’re away. Since March 2021, I have been a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind and have raised, trained, and socialized a male black lab named Alfie since he was 8 weeks old. I learned a lot during all of my past animal experiences and I loved pretty much every second of it! I have also interned at veterinary hospitals and have learned a lot about pet health, handling, and behavior through this as well as how to administer oral and injectable medication. I am open to special requests and simply want your pet to be the most well-cared for and comfortable as they can be. I am responsible, trustworthy, and happiest whenever I am with a dog, and I hope you'll choose me to be your pet's new friend.

Loved Maddie’s attention to detail while caring for my cat Gnocchi. I’ve been away for almost a month and Maddie was one of the sitters I hired during the period to care for him. She is quick to understand instructions, and was a natural with him and gave him play time during each visit. I would hire her again in a heartbeat!

I follow instructions of the owner carefully to ensure the health, safety, and comfort of the pets I care for. I am also one to pay close attention to any signs of illness or injury, or a pet just not acting right and will report to the owner right away about next steps. If the situation is emergent, I am willing to transport animals to a veterinarian ASAP.

Information Maddie D. would like to know about your pet

I love dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities! Let me know if your pet has any special needs, favorite activities, or behavioral things that I should look out for. I've worked with many dogs with separation anxiety, and am willing to try helping work through this with you and your pet. Also please let me know of any allergies or medical issues that your pet may have so that I can keep an eye out and ensure their well-being and health.

My schedule during the week is pretty open and flexible between the beginning of May and middle of July! I do have to keep up with the care and training of my own animals, but I am able to work through different schedules each week.
