Mackenzie overall took good care of our cat. We appreciate that and the fact that she left the house in good order upon our return. She was not overly communicative, often going several days in a row without sending a picture or communication unless asked. However, the worst part of this booking is that after viewing her fee and confirming our booking, having a meet and greet and our full payment of her requested amount for the stay, she informed us only ONE day before we were leaving that her fee was actually 3 TIMES what we had contracted for. She then asked us if we would "meet her halfway" by paying DOUBLE what we had contracted. She claimed at first that we must have made a mistake by booking "cat care" and not house-sitting, however, I sent her a screenshot proving that we had booked house-sitting so that the "mistake" was not ours. We paid the fee she herself had advertised. After we proved we had booked the correct thing, she blamed Rover's software saying it must have made a mistake in representing her fee incorrectly. And she only noticed this the day before our leaving?! In any case, she had agreed to it and booked the stay -- all of which she could have turned down anytime in the 2 weeks it took to schedule this stay. We felt backed into a corner. We did not agree to double the fee but we did offer to give her a large cash tip in an envelope and a $20 gift card to Starbucks, both of which she accepted. This felt like bait and switch or , honestly, extortion and all seemed pretty fishy to us, but we felt like we had no choice. We had non-refundable tickets and would have cost us thousands to cancel. Our compromise was that we had the neighbors check in on our kitty multiple times while we were gone to be sure all was going well and lived with the extra worry about whether we had done the right thing for our kitty. This was very upsetting for us. We were relieved when we got home and saw that at least she was okay. We paid considerably more than contracted. Couldn't help but wonder if this was the first time she did this. We would not book this young lady again and we can't recommend her.
