Trustworthy, conscientious, caring

Pet care experience

Note: I have temporarily set my profile to Away as I am fostering two dogs who need my full attention. I will be available as soon as they are settled and adopted. Thanks -- Lynda Hi there, I’m Lynda and I can’t wait to be your dog’s next best friend. I was inspired to become a pet sitter by a close friend who was a professional dog sitter, and I just thought that it sounded like such a wonderful profession! However, I really didn't know how to get started so I never really got off the ground with my own career in sitting. Although just recently, we had to hire a pet sitter so we could go on a trip (since we can't rely on our kids any more!) and it got me thinking about it again about giving it a try! I’ve been a lifelong dog lover, so sitting was a natural decision for me. I love the joy and enthusiasm they show in the simplest pleasure, such as a walk along a wooded trail, a swim in a creek, a ride in the car, or when I come home from a one hour trip to the store. Dogs just fill me with happiness! I typically always like to schedule a meet-and-greet when taking on new clients. Firstly, it’s a great opportunity for us to make sure that we’re a good fit for one another, but it also provides us with the opportunity to chat about expectations for the stay. During the meet, I will follow cues given to me by both you and your pup. My own larger dogs don't trust someone at my doorstep right away, so I like to have the owner there alongside to show that I’m a friendly presence. If the owner is OK with treats, I might keep a small treat in my pocket to help us become fast friends. The owner and I can also try taking a walk around the neighborhood together with their pup before I came into their home. When it comes to breed preferences, I’m happy to take on pups of all kinds, but larger dogs can be a bit of a more complicated answer. I have larger dogs of my own and have lots of experience taking care of big pups, but the key aspect to those dogs is that they have had a very sweet and respectful demeanor. Since I don’t have the physical strength to reign in very large dogs, we’ll have to make sure that if your pooch is big and strong, they are also respectful of commands and won’t resist me. During a stay, however, I am completely committed to providing excellent service to both you and your pooch! Excellent customer service involves detailed communication and listening, being considerate, reliable, trustworthy, respectful and compassionate. It involves putting myself in the place of the customer and the animal being cared for and always treating your pup as if they were my own. I like to ask tons of questions ahead of time so I can plan around for every contingency possible. It also lets me get into your pup’s head a little bit and figure out how I can make their time with me a dream come true! I’m all ears for hearing what makes your pup tick, whether that be extra belly rubs, another mile during our walk, or cuddling up on the couch for some nice R&R together. I know that every client (canine and human!) is totally unique, so I’ll always tailor every stay around the individual needs.

Lynda did a great job getting to know and watch my older dog who is definitely nervous with new people. We’re looking forward to future visits with her!

Lynda saved the day for Mollie and Daphne while we were moving. Unfortunately, we were moving out of state, so can no longer use her, but I HIGHLY recommend her for your pet when you can not take them with you. Lynda has a big, beautiful back yard that our doggies loved! Miss being able to use Lynda!

Lynda was great! It was our first time using Rover and so glad we found her. She constantly kept me updated on our cats. They both require medication, which she was totally comfortable with giving. One of our cats is pretty timid and she did fabulous with Lynda! We were very happy that we chose to use her!

Information Lynda H. would like to know about your pet

How does the dog do on a leash? Does your dog have any aggressive behaviors such as lunging, or food guarding? Does your dog have preferences about being touched and petted? Does your pet have anxiety issues that need to be addressed? Is your dog house trained or have accidents in the home? Is your dog an escape artist or a Houdini with a crate? Does your dog use a crate and if so, is that crate a safe haven for it? How does your dog act around other animals (usually) or strangers? As far as breed preferences go, I try to take animals as individuals. However, I don't have enough power in my shoulders to rein in a powerful, muscular animal that lunges or snaps. I don't mind a larger dog who is obedient and has a sweet temperament with other animals. Note to friends: I hope to be able to get back to dog walking soon. I had surgery on my foot this year and I'm trying to give it time to heal. I can still do easy walks and visits. Even though dog walking is set to Away in my profile, contact me if you have a dog that only requires an easy walk.

A typical day

Although I’ll always make sure that I follow the instructions of every owner, I do like to have a general structure for care. The first thing that we’ll do together when I arrive is head out for a quick potty break and walk before preparing breakfast. Before I prepare the food, however, I’ll ensure that the food and water bowls are clean and wash them if they are not. When we go on our second walk of the day, we’ll engage our curiosities and explore the neighborhood a little bit. I’ll make sure to play it safe as we get to know each other and I get more familiar with your pup’s temperament. After our second walk, I’ll make sure they’re taken care of for the day and set up their crate if they have one. I’ll return again in the afternoon or evening to head out for another walk and mealtime. We’ll also make sure to spend some quality time together, whether that means playing some games to build trust or cuddling together with some TV! When I am just getting to know your pup, I will take them to familiar places around their neighborhood. As we establish a pattern and they obey me on the leash, we can venture out a bit. The Seneca Greenway Trail and the Damascus bike trail are right nearby, so we can definitely begin by exploring those areas. It just doesn't get any more wonderful than that! On summer days, we live close to a school and playground. If your pup is to be trusted off-leash, we can play and run in a field near our home. We might let them off leash in the woods to wander around and swim in the Seneca Creek (but I would never do this without the owner's permission).
