Dogless person looking to help others with theirs

Pet care experience

I had an amazing 16 year old cocker spaniel family dog who I miss beyond belief and would love to help out others look after their precious pups. Because I rent, I am unable to have my own dog, I get a small fix seeing dogs on my morning walk along the beach but it's not quite enough interaction for me! I am happy to look after your dog in your home. I am happy to help out with dogs of most breeds, sizes or ages. Unfortunately, where I am right now, I cannot bring dogs back to mine so would have to be at the owners home or for beach walks. Not to forget your feline friend, I also love cats and am very happy to look after your cat and give them some attention whilst you are away; I've never understood the dog v cat person. I am actually based in Exmouth but have set my location manually so that the radius extends a bit further.

Lydia looked after my two little old set in their way dogs beautifully. She kept in constant contact keeping me up dated on their walks, meals and their sleeping habits. Pickles got a poorly tummy, she is always eating things she shouldn't in the garden and Lydia took amazing care of her, getting up in the night, making her special food and giving her lots of cuddles. She kept me updated on her progress sent pictures and videos of how she was getting on and reassuring me on their welfare. Both Josie and Pickles were very happy with her looking after them. It was a real source of concern leaving them both as normally me or my husband are here but I couldn't have asked for more. Lydia a brilliant job and I wouldn't hesitate to use her again or recommend her to look after your dogs. Pickles is much better and they are missing their mornings in the garden with Lydia. Can't thank her enough.

Lydia was excellent! She took very good care of our dog while we were away for almost a week. She kept us updated and sent us photos and videos.

We honestly could not have asked for a better dog sitter than Lydia! She cared for Gizmo for the day while we went to a wedding and sent us lots of photos and message updates to keep our minds at ease. As a dog with severe separation anxiety, Gizmo becomes distressed when away from us, so we were so pleased to see that he seemed completely comfortable with Lydia and settled down quickly with her in our home. Our house was also left in perfect condition and she followed all our instructions with regards to feeding, walks and care. We will definitely ask Lydia to sit Gizmo in the future and couldn’t recommend her more. Thank you again!

I am tidy, courteous and respectful of a dog owners home, belongings and security. I treat other people's homes how I treat my own. I will always check with the owner the quantity, duration and timing of walks/meal times to ensure that the dog keeps its routine as best as possible whilst its owners are away. I find keeping their routine helps to build their trust. I love to have the company of your dog whilst I am working and using them as an excuse for extra screen breaks (aka cuddles!).

Information Lydia P. would like to know about your pet

I am mostly used to medium sized dogs but am pretty strong so would be able to handle a larger dog as well and would feel comfortable doing so. It would be useful to know if your dog has certain phrases or words that they respond to when off lead to help with their recall, do they have any tendencies to run off, how do they interact with other dogs, and people? It would be really useful to do a handover ahead of long stays, as well as a crib sheet with all useful information such as meal and toilet schedules and if the dog is flexible around these or if they have a very structured schedule. It would also be useful if I'm staying in your home for an extended period to be left instructions for anything I might use.

A typical day

I love to go on a beach walk, particularly in Exmouth so hopefully your dog does too! I am happy to walk dogs on or off lead, depending on the dog. If your dog is happy to be off lead, I will likely still do our first walk on the lead for the dog to get used to me and recognise my voice for the all important recall when needed. I love being outdoors, walking on a coastal path or Dartmoor so your dog would be guaranteed a good walk. If I am staying at your house overnight, I would love to know what you and your dogs routine walk is so that i can replicate this. I also love playing with dogs, whether they like a game of tug'o'war or a game of fetch!

I will work around your pets walking and toilet break schedules and be as flexible as needed. I work from home so am able to set my laptop up at yours and provide company and walks when needed. In terms of overnight sitting, this would be dependant on the owners home and location so I would always prefer to arrange a meet and greet at the owners home to ensure best fit for all parties.
