Rescue Charity & Foster experience

Pet care experience

I've spent a number of years working with a dog rescue charity out in Georgia, USA (HeroDogRescue .org), but am unable to have my own dog or cat, as I have 2 wonderful house rabbits. During my time at the rescue, I have helped to foster a large number of dogs (with up to 15 in our house at any one time!) and have experience with energetic / "difficult" / elderly / unwell / disabled dogs and administering oral medication. I absolutely adore all animals and with a whole lot of experience in handling dogs (cats a little less), I believe I am capable of coping with all sorts of breeds of dog (however I am a fairly small person, so if you have a large dog that can be particularly forceful (tugs on the lead a lot), I might not be the best fit to take your pup for walkies). I own two rabbits and both live indoors with me, so pet-sitting dogs or cats at my home is not an option. I am willing to pet-sit more than just dogs, and I am more than happy to look after your hamster or guinea pig (in my own home, or yours) & cats and dogs are fine to be looked after at your own home, or go for as long or short a walk as needed. As the rescue is in the USA & I live in the UK, I can't visit all the time. Before I moved out of my parents' home, we had a rescue greyhound so I have spent a lot of time with him too - still visiting when I can. So, because of this, I have a dog-shaped hole in my heart waiting to be filled!

Information Lydia C. would like to know about your pet

Before you leave your pooch in my loving hands, I would need to know what medication they may need; their physical fitness (how long they are able to exercise for if old etc); & anything that might "set them off", for example: are they afraid of larger dogs or will they try bounding after a c.a.t if they see one! Essentially just let me know anything that you think will make the dog be or feel safest! As for breed preferences, I adore them all so no worries there!

A typical day

I have my own transport so we can travel to parks and have a proper run (or walk) & not just potter around the local streets. I find this much safer as we wouldn't be near traffic either.
