I’ve been told that Luci (Lucia Urquiaga) is strongly empathetic and intuitive. She can walk into a room of people and be aware at the start how some are feeling or their challenges. This of course has also been difficult for her to manage, because as a young girl Luci had to figure out the boundaries between her own emotions and others’. This also created lots of discomfort for her. When a friend in a 4H club handed us a baby german shepherd eleven years ago. I was weary. As a girl, my family had dogs, and the experiences weren’t always great. They were hard to train, ran away, and sometimes even bit our neighbors leading to countless efforts. When I saw Duncan crawl onto Luci’s bed as a puppy, I realized this might be different. In fact with Luci, and her slow, gentle sensitivity...I knew Duncan would be a great support to her, and that I didn’t need to worry about his behaviors or training, and that she’d take care of it. Later, as Duncan grew (120 lbs.!) I often giggled to see him sprawled next to her, then almost to her length filling the bed, her curled by his side. So, here’s where I understood Luci’s passion for animals. If there are “dog whisperers” I believe she could be one, because I have seen her slowly, fearlessly whispering to other dogs (and various other animals.) The idea of Luci taking care of others’ family pets sounds like an amazing opportunity for all involved. I’m so proud of her for thinking to use her intuitive skills with animals in her profession. A winning combination! I know you’ll see that Luci will be a great asset and addition to Rover.com.
