Liz is a great communicator and it was clear the first time we met that she knows a lot about dogs. Liz has been great so far with our pup and are glad Liz now is a regular part of our schedule!

The interview with Liz went really well, she came into my home demonstrating confidence and comfort with my 3 dogs (14 year old Yorkie litter mates and a 13 month old Aussiedoodle). She made me feel very comfortable about her understanding of the breeds and their ages. She also talked briefly about the privilege and respect she had for housesitting, while petsitting. We talked about the particular nuances of the broken storm door, the Rottweiler issue next door and the hawks nest and coyotes in the neighborhood. After our interview, I felt comfortable hiring Liz for to house / petsit for a long weekend. What went well: Liz showed up earlier than I expected and offered to help with anything I might need to make my exit to Chicago easier. I did not ask her to help with anything during that time, I simply used that time to chat again about the storm door (not new), Sabrina's new itching and show her the Benadryl / dosing and ask if she had any questions. Liz seemed to be particularly excited about Stormi and said she would like to teach her some new tricks. She asked me if Stormi had any puzzles. I brought the puzzle and lick pad up from the basement. Liz sent me a video from Stormi solving the puzzle while I was away. At the end of the day, I am pleased that my dogs were safe and happy when I arrived home. What did not go well: The reason why I will not hire her again: Lack of accountability and The puzzle was so chewed up and I sent Liz a message saying " Hey Liz ... just curious about how Stormi's puzzle got so chewed up?" Her response: "Hey Kimberley! That was definitely Stormi and a bit of collaboration with Sabrina and Truffle when they were working on it, my apologies!" In all honesty, the only way this puzzle would have been chewed up, would have been by Stormi (Aussiedoodle) as a result of not being watched. A puzzle is meant to be set up, solved and removed. Sabrina and Truffle are 14 years old and do not have the dental health to ruin the puzzle. No matter what, the puzzle should not have been ruined. Liz took no responsibility. I was disappointed to find dirty dishes in the sink, unclean countertops and a very greasy stove. When I asked Liz about this she said, "I wasn't clear on your expectations and I spent my energy on your dogs." I said "I guess it is not common sense to everyone that you should clean up after yourself?" She said she did not realize she was disrespecting my space in that way and I should make my expectations clear." This is disheartening because the initial trust was there. I just have to ask ... when you are housesitting, should you expect your house to be in the same shape you left it?
