I grew up with shetland sheepdogs and australian shepherds. Five years ago, I found and adopted my best friend, Pongo, at the Humane Society in Boulder, Colorado. Pongo is a pekingese who brings me joy every single day. Being abandoned by his previous owner initially caused him to have some issues with separation anxiety, but time, compassion, and love have since healed those wounds. I believe that dogs have complex and valueable emotions and that they're capable of bringing out the best in their human companions so long as they're given the love and attention that they need and deserve.
