I run the high-energy dogs, they love it. More exercise can solve a lot of behavioral problems quickly, for the dogs too! The winning formula I've found is: twice daily walks, 5-45 minutes each. Work up in increments of 5 minutes per week to what is sustainable for yourself and the dogs. I recently watched a house for two months in Austin, TX during Hurricane Harvey's land storm. Two dogs, 13 chickens, solar and rain dependent house (totally off-grid)... each of these requiring their own time, love, and troubleshooting, rain or shine! If it weren't for those loyal four-leggeds that followed me around everywhere, that giant, storm-worthy property would have been too lonely to bare. I travel often and so I can't keep my own pets, but I need their companionship and love; and their "Let's Go!" attitude. It is my pleasure to help my neighbors by taking special care of their furry family members.
