Leila was very eager and exited to watch Kakashi upon request. I chose her after speaking with her during a video chat. She already had a fur baby and was actively watching other dogs. In addition, she had good reviews. When dropping Kakashi off she came to the car, which for my dog is not good. He’s a protective. He started barking at her immediately. Which made things a bit chaotic. I started to crate him because the crate is his “comfort zone”. She insisted I give him to her leashed. Again, not a good decision as he was already in protective mode. After she couldn’t calm him, I took him and put him in the crate to take him inside her house to get used to things. I let her know that offering treats and food is a huge incentive for him to get comfortable around her. She said she’d be fine and so would he. Later that night, she called me to assist because he was growling, wouldn’t come out of his crate or eat. Luckily the resort I was staying at was only 5 minutes away. I went back and did a few training techniques with Kakashi. Sit, stay, come, and then introduced him to her dogs and guided him in play with them. Then I leashed him and went for a walk with her while she held his leash. After we got back in, I let her take him to the room she had for him. He freely played with the dogs for a while and was comfortable with being fed by her. Took about 30 minutes. I left afterwards. The next couple days she was fine and they were acclimating well. Then one day I get a few frantic texts that he had ran out the front door. I had precautioned her in advanced that my dog will run out the door if given any opportunity. She told me her dog was the same and she understood and before anyone opens the front door she makes sure the dogs are in the other room. That didn’t happen that day. Luckily she recovered him 15 minutes later. The remainder of the trip, he was fine. I asked her to send photos everyday. When I picked him up she let me know that most of the time he was isolated because she didn’t think he would play well with the other dogs. He regularly attended doggy daycare where he freely plays with 3+ dogs. He also lives in a home with small children. He’s very gentle with my 5 year old daughter and playful with my 9 year old son. Since he’s been back home he’s been a little different, even his regular dog daycare providers said he’s behaving strangely. Since his stay with Leila, Kakashi has been jumpy whenever I move my hand, he’s very demanding of my attention and has been more clingy than usual. He been at daycare for weeks at a time before and has never come back behaving this strange. I think Leila is a great sitter and definitely tried to take care of my pup to the best of her ability. She sent pictures every day and was very good about communicating with me when there was an issue. At the end of the stay, she made sure all of his things were together and in tact. In my opinion, I think she’s used to watching dogs that demand less attention, are not as stubborn, and are more people trusting. My little dog isn’t that type.
